GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 


The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking a Hunter/Angler R3 Coordinator based in Cheyenne, WY. This position leads Game and Fish efforts to recruit the next generation of hunters and anglers with a focus on recruitment for youth and other specific demographics. The position oversees and coordinates recruitment and retention programs to evaluate and refine the Wyoming Game and Fish's R3 (recruitment, retention, reactivation) efforts and programming. The position will build upon established R3 efforts and work across the organization to continue leading and refining the implementation of established programs, evaluating metrics, and engaging with stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.


  •  Serve as the Department lead on efforts to increase hunting and angling participation within Wyoming through collaboration with stakeholders and external communications.
  •  Develop programs and systems through a comprehensive plan to focus on recruiting, retaining, and reactivating hunters and anglers through coordinated efforts between multiple diverse groups internally and externally.
  • Expand capacity within new and current stakeholders for programs that fill current gaps in the department's recruitment, retention, and reactivation efforts.
  • Develop tools to enhance the identification of potential participants for hunting outreach efforts.
  • Align new and existing mentoring efforts/outreach programs with models of success. Develop partnerships that support the department's mission and encourage participation efforts to recruit and retain hunters and anglers of all ages.
  • Partner with the Conservation Education Coordinator and the Hunter Education Coordinator to facilitate education team projects and programs, outreach opportunities, and hunter education integration/instruction.
  • Work with the Communications and Marketing Team to develop marketing strategies and media to promote hunter/angler recruitment and retention.
  • Coordinate and implement workshops and programs to further hunting and angling participation in Schools.

QUALIFICATIONS:
PREFERENCES: 


Preference may be given to candidates with 2-4 years of experience coordinating or managing R3 programs and activities.


KNOWLEDGE: 

 
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, organization staff, external organizations, and the organization's partners from the outdoor recreational community.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, including interpersonal, educational, and public speaking skills.
  • Experience planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating training programs to facilitate the business need.
  • Knowledge and experience participating in outdoor recreational activities such as hunting, fishing, recreational shooting, trapping, boating, or other wildlife-based recreation activity.
  • Knowledge of current R3 efforts both locally and nationally.
  • Ability to think and act creatively and strategically to further hunting and shooting sports R3 efforts.
  • Experience with planning and leading diverse stakeholder groups in planning efforts.
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 

Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Public Relations)

 
Experience:
0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Public Relations, Education, Biology, Wildlife Management, or a related field) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Public Relations Specialist II

 
OR

 
Education & Experience Substitution:
4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Public Relations, Education, Biology, Wildlife Management, or a related field) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Public Relations Specialist II
