The Limits with Jay Williams Podcast & Content Development Intern - Fall/Winter 2022

A thriving, mission-driven multimedia organization, NPR produces award-winning news, information, and music programming in partnership with hundreds of independent public radio stations across the nation. The NPR audience values information, creativity, curiosity, and social responsibility – and our employees do too. We are innovators and leaders in diverse fields, from journalism and digital media to IT and development. Every day, our employees and member stations touch the lives of millions worldwide and that includes our interns.
From day one, interns at NPR are given real-world, hands-on responsibilities. Working alongside top professionals in the field, interns do meaningful work across a variety of departments at NPR.
Across our organization, we’re building a workplace where collaboration is essential, diverse voices are heard, and inclusion is the key to our success. We are committed to doing the right thing in our journalism and in every role at NPR. This means that integrity, adherence to our ethical standards, and compliance with legal obligations are fundamental responsibilities for every employee at NPR.
Program Duration: October 3, 2022 - April 14, 2023
INTERN WILL LEARN AND BE EXPOSED TO:
This internship will spend the first half of the program with the The Limits team learning the ins and outs of producing a podcast and then spend the second half of the program with the content development team learning how new podcast ideas come to life!
For the Content Development Team:
We’re seeking an intern to join us in piloting and incubating programming for the next generation of NPR audiences. Our Content Development team brings innovative ideas and fresh talent into the NPR fold and connects that talent to the resources and support they need to develop their concept. We work with staff and partners to refine their show concepts and produce their pilots, and host workshops and labs that aim to cultivate new creators within and outside the organization.
For The Limits:
About the show: Today, the art of celebrity doesn’t quite look like it used to. Now, it’s all about betting on yourself—taking your personal brand, redefining it, making it work for you—and few are better fit to talk about the stakes than father, entrepreneur, ESPN host, and full 180°-maker, Jay Williams. Each week, he goes deep with heavy-hitters from the worlds of sports, entertainment, business, and pop culture to understand the principles of faith, vision, and grit they live by in order to see past doubt and build their empires. From rappers-to-moguls, to talk show hosts-turned-CEOs, you’ll learn the ways that the ultra-successful define, push, and conquer their limits in this study of modern greatness.
We’re seeking a creative person with fresh ideas to pitch, book, and help research interviews for the show. You’ll be trained on all that goes into making a weekly podcast, and because we have a video component on YouTube, you’ll gain insight into video production. You’ll also have the opportunity to do some production work and build up technical skills.
