Medical Exposure Internship in Israel

Job Overview:
As a pre-med student, medical school student, nursing student, or a recent graduate, gain valuable experience serving alongside the medical staff at the Nazareth Hospital EMMS in Israel. Experience how serving a community medically can also be ministry and outreach. Experience community life with staff and volunteers. Medical experience can be gained in the Emergency Room, Maternity ward, NICU, or Dialysis unit. The hospital is affiliated with Bar-Ilan University and is committed to the development of medical education and research. Each year the hospital has many students of medicine, nursing and other medical fields from universities and colleges from Israel and around the world. You would be co-hosted by this Hospital and our local OM team.
Responsibilities and Duties:
The intern will support the local nursing staff in their everyday duties, from helping with preparation of patient beds, to assisting with laundry, helping run samples and results to and from the laboratory, moving patients and serving them meals. Each department has variations on these basic duties, as each place has its own flow of work. We can offer placements in the NICU, Surgical ward, ER, Maternity nursery and Dialysis, as well as other places as needed.
Proposed Weekly Schedule:
It’s usually based on a 7 hours a day, 5 days a week schedule. However, this can be adapted for specific needs. Usual days off are Saturday and Sunday, or Sunday and Monday.
 Qualifications and Skills:
There are no set qualifications necessary, but experience of hospital work or nursing would be desirable. Any knowledge of Arabic and/or Hebrew would also be desirable, but not essential. The ability to be flexible, work independently at times and cope with a cross cultural multi-language environment is essential. We ask that all interns are committed Christians with a sensitivity to the local environment and to hospital working. Our ministry in the hospital is a ministry of presence – being there for the patients and relatives and responding to their needs/questions as they ask them. We are under the Ministry of Health regulations including the rights of the patient.
Additional Info:
  • All interns must formally accept and abide by OM USA’s Statement of Faith for the duration of the internship.
  • Our organization will provide tools and training to raise funds.
  • Pre-Field training happens through on-line materials and Skype sessions with coaches and other interns for a few weeks leading up departure date. Includes debriefing with coaches on return.
  • The length of time needs to be a minimum of 6 weeks as any shorter just doesn't give time to settle and see results.
Qualifications of on-field supervisor:
  • Medical supervisor is the Director of Nursing at the hospital. Additional local supervision supplied by our local OM team.
Accreditation:
  • Degree Credit available upon the approval of your university/college supervisors.
Pay:
Stipend of $800/month
