Position Description

Summary / Objective:

A-Tech LLC, A BlueHalo Company is has an opportunity for an internship for an Electrical Engineering student during the winter break between university semesters. The intern will assist with research tasks for the Heterogeneous Optical W/V-band Demonstration (HOWD) project. The intern will perform modeling and simulation of wireless communication systems operating in the W/V-band (i.e., 81-86 GHz / 71-76 GHz). The intern will conduct data analysis and model validation. Due to the short duration of this internship, candidate must have prior experience developing link budget models, an understanding of W/V-band propagation physics, and a basic understanding of digital communications. The intern must have remote learning or tele-working experience. The intern must be able to work on tasks independently.

Work Environment:

Intern must work remotely because of New Mexico travel restrictions. A home office with adequate computer and network resources is sufficient. Coordination with HOWD project manager and other team members will be accomplished by VTC.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work:

This is a part time position (up to 40 hours per week) for a limited duration, determined by the student’s academic calendar. Flexible work hours are authorized subject to approval by the HOWD project manager.

Travel:

Travel is not required for this internship.

Required Education and Experience:

·        A United States Citizen, able to obtain and maintain a U. S. Department of Defense Security Clearance.
·        Enrolled in Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with interest in satellite communications and microwave engineering
·        Proficiency with Matlab
·        Experience with W/V-band propagation and link budget modeling
