Columbia Records Big Red Internship

 

Background Information:

The Big Red Program is a unique summer internship program dedicated to exploring a wide range of digital and strategic initiatives while also providing students with a unique opportunity to learn about all aspects of a major record label. It is structured as a for credit summer internship, where participants will be grouped into teams, assigned a mentor from Columbia Records, and given a relevant project to explore over the summer. We are looking for creative, dedicated, inquisitive students who demonstrate a passion and commitment to music and a strong desire to help shape the future of the music business. Our ideal candidate will demonstrate a comprehensive mix of skill sets including strong written and verbal skills, solid digital and social media experience, online marketing/publicity experience, and business strategy experience. All selected participants will work out of the Columbia Records offices in New York City from the middle of June through early August. Please note all participants will be required to submit a letter of credit at the beginning of the internship.

 

Potential Project Areas Include:

The Marketing department is responsible for the planning, development, pitching and execution of innovative marketing strategies to launch, brand and develop artists. The project managers are responsible for overseeing all aspects of marketing for Columbia’s artists and for coordinating the efforts of the label to ensure the consistency of imaging between artists and their music.

The Sales department coordinates with the marketing, promotion, finance, release planning and senior management team to develop and implement unique strategies for launching all of Columbia Records releases (i.e. digital only; windowing, etc). The Sales team also works directly with all digital and physical partners to maximize sales and exposure for all Columbia artists.

 

The Digital Marketing department creates online awareness for our artists’ using a variety of digital promotion, publicity, and marketing tactics. Our Digital Marketing team is responsible for finding innovative, creative and unique ways to help our artists stand out in the digital marketplace. The Digital Marketing department works in close partnership with our Product Managers to make sure all of our digital efforts are closely aligned to the overall marketing plans and strategies for each of our artists.

 

Our International Marketing team is responsible for maximizing our artists’ exposure outside of the United States. They work closely with the marketing departments at our local affiliate offices around the world to plan, develop and execute local marketing strategies for our artists.

 

The Promotion department is responsible for maximizing exposure for Columbia artists through radio airplay. This includes leading radio promotion activities in their markets for all Columbia Records artists for a variety of formats of Pop radio including Top 40, Alternative Rock, Active Rock, Mainstream Rock, HAC, AC and AAA.
