The Bucks County Department of Emergency Communications is responsible for serving the county’s 600,000+ residents. Not only do our dispatchers work diligently to answer over 800,000 emergency and non-emergency calls per year, as a central dispatch center we also work closely with police, fire and EMS responders. It’s a challenging job requiring dedication and constant training. Though we are at the center of emergency services, what we do is unseen and therefore a mystery to the public.

This is where you come in! We’re looking for a creative and motivated individual to help build on our social media presence, working closely with our dispatch and management teams to create content and aid in our social media outreach.

The Emergency Communications intern position maintains equal expectations of both learning and performing. Our goal is to provide a real-world learning experience to help our student-intern succeed. The student is expected to work a hybrid and flexible 15-20 hours per week and partake in the following: • Brainstorm and research ideas for original content related to dispatcher work, public safety tips, community events, and behind-the-scenes moments• Assist with researching, developing, and editing content for a wellness resource app• Support event and recruitment teams at live and online events• Contribute to ongoing campaigns related to recruitment efforts and public outreach• Respond to comments and DMs on social media platforms• Create compelling graphics to share across social channels• Write social media captions that speak to the department’s target audience.• Help create and edit both short and long-form videos• Monitor engagement analytics and develop new strategies for increasing engagement• Share content from related agencies’ platforms• Assist with photo/video content shoots
