Specialty Crop Marketing and Outreach

Contract Duration: 2 years (beginning fall 2026-September 29, 2028)
Schedule: 28 hours per week
Compensation: $25 per hour

Overview

The Ohio Department of Agriculture is seeking a motivated undergraduate or graduate student contractor to support statewide marketing and outreach initiatives for Ohio’s specialty crop industry. This role focuses on promoting specialty crop products in retail and restaurant settings and strengthening partnerships under the Ohio Proud program. The contractor will work closely with producers, retailers, restaurants, and program staff to elevate awareness and sales of Ohio-grown specialty crops.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and implementing marketing strategies to increase visibility and sales of Ohio specialty crops.
• Conduct targeted outreach to retail and restaurant partners to increase their purchasing and promotion of Ohio specialty crop products.

• Support creation of marketing materials, social media content, and point-of-sale resources highlighting Ohio specialty crop products.
• Coordinate and participate in events, tastings, demonstrations, and promotions across Ohio.
• Gather feedback and data from partners to help evaluate marketing efforts and identify growth opportunities.
• Maintain regular communication with Ohio Proud staff and contribute to program planning and reporting.
• Assist with other outreach and promotional activities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Current undergraduate or graduate student in marketing, agricultural communications, agricultural education, agribusiness and economic development, food systems, or a related field.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse partners.
• Interest in local food systems, agriculture, or consumer marketing.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, travel within Ohio as needed, and work independently.

Must provide own transportation. Mileage will be reimbursed at current state rate.
