Communications Intern

POSITION SUMMARY

Easterseals Oregon is seeking a creative, organized, and motivated Communications Intern to support organizational communications, storytelling, and community engagement.

This internship offers hands-on experience in nonprofit communications, social media, digital content, and storytelling. Working with the Development team, the intern will help share the stories and impact of Easterseals Oregon’s programs while creating content that increases awareness and engagement across digital and community platforms.

Flexible scheduling of up to 12 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Some weekend availability may be requested for special events and community engagement opportunities. Occasional remote work may be available depending on the project.

 

Intern Responsibilities

Content & Storytelling

  • Draft and edit content for social media, newsletters, website updates, and other communications.
  • Help develop stories highlighting Easterseals Oregon programs, participants, volunteers, donors, and community partners.
  • Assist with gathering photos, quotes, program updates, and other content from across the organization.
  • Help ensure communications are clear, consistent, inclusive, and aligned with Easterseals Oregon’s voice and mission.

Social Media & Digital Communications

  • Assist with creating and scheduling content for Easterseals Oregon’s social media channels.
  • Create social media graphics and other digital materials using Canva.
  • Help maintain a social media and communications content calendar.
  • Research relevant awareness days, community topics, and content opportunities.
  • Assist with tracking basic social media engagement and identifying content that performs well.

Website & Communications Materials

  • Assist with routine website content updates.
  • Help create and update flyers, event materials, program information, and other communications pieces.
  • Support communications for fundraising campaigns, events, volunteer opportunities, and community outreach.
  • Help organize photos, graphics, stories, and other digital assets for future use.

Skills

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Creativity and an interest in developing engaging content.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital content.
  • Basic graphic design skills or experience with Canva.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable working independently while asking questions and seeking feedback when needed.
  • Interest in storytelling and communicating about community impact.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully and inclusively about disability and the communities Easterseals Oregon serves.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current college student, recent graduate, or emerging professional.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar programs.
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms.
  • Reliable access to email and ability to communicate consistently with the internship supervisor.
  • Ability to commit up to 10 hours per week for the duration of the internship.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle organizational and participant information.
  • Successful completion of a background check.

This internship is designed to provide practical communications experience, professional development, and mentorship. The intern will gain experience in:

Whenever possible, the intern will have opportunities to create communications pieces that can be included in a professional portfolio while gaining hands-on experience and guidance from Easterseals Oregon staff.
