Party for a Purpose: Events & Nightlife Internship

What if your internship project was to create one of the biggest events of your semester?

Barcocina is building a small team for a hands on internship focused on entrepreneurship, events, marketing, and hospitality, with live projects taking place across Barcocina and The River Kitchen & Bar.

Instead of spending your internship shadowing someone or doing busy work, you will be given real business challenges and one major project:

Create an event people actually want to attend.

That could mean developing an event for your school, organization, friend group, campus community, professional network, or another audience you believe you can bring together.

You will help build it from the ground up, including the concept, branding, marketing, partnerships, guest experience, pricing, budgeting, promotion, and event execution.

Then you get to see if it actually works.

Your Project

Each intern or intern team will develop and execute a real event with guidance from our ownership, management, marketing, sales, and events teams.

You will learn how to:

• Turn an idea into a real event

• Create marketing and social media strategies

• Build partnerships and develop new audiences

• Understand event sales and customer acquisition

• Work with budgets, pricing, revenue goals, and basic financial reporting

• Learn how restaurants and hospitality businesses make money

• Understand staffing, scheduling, and labor management

• Gain exposure to recruiting, training, and human resources

• Learn event planning and event operations

• Understand guest experience and customer service

• Work with vendors and outside partners

• Learn sales and business development

• Analyze results and business performance

• Work alongside hospitality managers and company leadership

• Develop leadership and project management skills

Why This Internship Is Different

You are not just helping with someone else's project.

You are building one.

Our goal is for you to leave the program with real experience you can talk about in an interview and put on your resume.

You should be able to say:

“I created an event from scratch, built the marketing strategy, developed an audience, worked with a budget, generated revenue, managed the event, and analyzed the results.”

For Students

Students seeking internship credit are encouraged to apply.

We are happy to work with your college or university to provide documentation and help meet applicable internship or academic credit requirements.

For Recent Graduates and Future Hospitality Professionals

You do not have to currently be enrolled in college.

If you are interested in building a career in hospitality, events, restaurant management, marketing, sales, or entrepreneurship, this internship is designed to give you exposure to the different parts of operating a hospitality business.

You will gain experience in areas including finance, operations, human resources, event management, sales, marketing, leadership, guest experience, and business development.

The goal is to give you a foundation that can help prepare you for future opportunities in hospitality management and related careers.
