Zapwater Communications is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Public Relations Intern to join our Los Angeles team. This is a full-time, hybrid opportunity designed for recent graduates looking to launch their careers in public relations, with a particular interest in travel, hospitality, and lifestyle.

Our interns are given meaningful, hands-on experience working alongside our PR team and supporting a variety of client accounts. You’ll gain exposure to our day-to-day operations of the agency, develop your writing and media relations skills, and receive mentorship from experienced communications professionals.

What You’ll Do

  • Support the day-to-day administrative needs across multiple accounts 
  • Monitor, track, and compile media coverage across print, digital, broadcast and social media
  • Draft media pitches, press releases, briefing documents, client / media communications, and other PR materials
  • Conduct research on clients, destinations, hotels, travel trends, media outlets and relevant industry topics
  • Develop and maintain media lists, keeping up to speed on relevant writers and editors for our clients
  • Prepare client reports, coverage recaps, and take detailed meeting recap notes
  • Assist with PR activations and events as needed
  • Stay informed on current travel, hospitality, lifestyle and cultural trends to identify timely media opportunities
  • Learn and utilize industry tools and platforms including Muck Rack, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Canva and other communications tools

Our Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a recent graduate who is creative, organized, proactive, and eager to learn about the travel / hospitality industry

  • Is genuinely interested in travel, hospitality, tourism and international cultures
  • Thinks critically and can identify the most relevant or compelling information within a larger story
  • Exceptional attention to detail 
  • Proactive, resourceful and comfortable taking initiative
  • Is comfortable working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Has strong time-management skills and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced agency environment
  • Is adaptable and willing to jump into new projects and learn new skills
  • Has a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint/Presentation tools
  • Is familiar with Canva and/or Muck Rack and eager to learn new PR platforms
  • Maintains a professional, positive and collaborative attitude

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree: Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English, Hospitality, Travel/Tourism, Business, etc
    • Even if your degree doesn't full under one of these categories, we invite you to apply if you feel that you have relevant experience or a keen interest in this industry!
  • Strong proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Based in Los Angeles and able to commute to our Santa Monica office 3 times per week
