Position Summary

The Organizational Capacity-Building AmeriCorps VISTA will develop sustainable systems that strengthen Keys Foundation and expand its ability to serve Omaha youth and families experiencing economic and educational barriers.

The VISTA member will focus on building organizational infrastructure related to mentor and volunteer engagement, community partnerships, communications, resource development, program evaluation, and internal procedures.

This is a full-time, year-long AmeriCorps VISTA service position. It is not a traditional internship or employment position.

Responsibilities

  • Assess Keys Foundation’s current organizational systems and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop a sustainable mentor and volunteer recruitment strategy.
  • Create mentor and volunteer recruitment, screening, onboarding, training, and retention materials.
  • Build systems for tracking mentor, volunteer, partner, and participant engagement.
  • Research and develop relationships with schools, colleges, businesses, churches, nonprofits, and community organizations.
  • Create partnership-outreach templates, presentations, and follow-up procedures.
  • Develop a communications plan, content calendar, and reusable outreach templates.
  • Create systems for sharing volunteer opportunities, program information, and organizational results.
  • Research government, foundation, corporate, and community funding opportunities.
  • Develop a grant calendar, funding database, and organized library of reusable application materials.
  • Create donor-engagement and stewardship procedures.
  • Develop tools for collecting attendance, participant feedback, program outputs, and outcomes.
  • Create organizational policies, procedures, templates, and a capacity-building manual.
  • Pilot new systems, collect feedback, make improvements, and train designated staff or volunteers to maintain them.
  • Document completed projects and provide recommendations for long-term sustainability.

  • Basic proficiency with Google Workspace or Microsoft Office
  • Comfort conducting research and maintaining spreadsheets
  • Familiarity with Canva or social-media platforms
  • Interest in nonprofit management, youth development, education, communications, fundraising, public service, or community development
  • Sound judgment when handling confidential information

Previous paid nonprofit experience is not required. Relevant coursework, volunteer service, student leadership, personal projects, and community involvement will be considered.

Minimum Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Meet AmeriCorps VISTA citizenship or lawful permanent-resident requirements
  • Be available for full-time service for the complete service term
  • Be able to participate in required in-person activities in Omaha
  • Have dependable transportation or another reliable way to reach required locations
  • Complete all required AmeriCorps screening and enrollment steps
  • Follow Keys Foundation’s confidentiality and professional-conduct policies
  • Complete any required background checks

Member Benefits

  • Living allowance of $25,637.60 annually, paid biweekly by direct deposit, with applicable taxes withheld
  • After successful completion, a choice between a $7,395 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award and an approximately $1,800 end-of-service cash stipend
