Relationship Development Manager

RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPMENT SYSTEMS MANAGER
Research, Messaging, and Email Operations
Make Me Visible

ABOUT MAKE ME VISIBLE

Make Me Visible is being built for people who become invisible when families, healthcare systems, employers, professionals, law enforcement, courts, or other institutions fail them.

The platform is centered on evidence, witnessing, continuity, protection, accountability, and real advocacy. Its purpose is to help ensure that vulnerable people are not abandoned simply because one system refuses to listen, act, or preserve what happened.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Make Me Visible is looking for someone to build and operate a complete research and cold-email system.

This is not a generic outreach-assistant position built around sending as many emails as possible. The purpose is to create a disciplined system that helps Make Me Visible identify the people who can materially advance its mission, understand why they matter, communicate with them intelligently, track every response, and maintain follow-through until there is a clear outcome.

The person hired for this role will build the structure behind Make Me Visible’s relationship development. Other team members may own specific media, legal, advocacy, funding, partnership, investigative, or institutional relationships. Your responsibility is to make sure the research, messaging, email process, records, follow-ups, and handoffs work reliably.

WHAT YOU WILL BUILD

• A clear process for identifying and qualifying the people and organizations Make Me Visible needs to reach.

• Separate contact groups based on the purpose of the relationship, including investigative journalists, editors, producers, podcast hosts, disability-rights organizations, patient advocates, civil-rights groups, legal-aid organizations, pro bono attorneys, investigators, victim-support organizations, social-impact funders, philanthropists, foundations, policy leaders, healthcare organizations, researchers, and potential institutional partners.

• Research standards that prevent irrelevant names, outdated positions, duplicate contacts, guessed email addresses, and unsupported claims from entering the system.

• A method for determining who has actual decision-making authority, subject-matter credibility, access to resources, public influence, investigative ability, or the power to open a meaningful door.

• A personalized email structure for each contact group, including the first email, follow-ups, responses to common questions, and a clear next-step request.

• Messaging that explains what Make Me Visible is building without reducing it to another advocacy organization, complaint platform, or awareness campaign.

• A contact database that records who the person is, why they matter, what they have previously worked on, how they were found, when they were contacted, what they said, and what must happen next.

• A follow-up schedule that prevents interested people, important leads, and time-sensitive opportunities from being forgotten.

• A process for routing positive responses to the correct person without losing the history or purpose of the relationship.

• A reporting system that shows qualified contacts, messages sent, responses, meetings, pending follow-ups, introductions, commitments, and completed outcomes.

• Quality controls for accuracy, personalization, tone, evidence, and compliance with applicable email and privacy requirements.

• A testing process for improving subject lines, messages, timing, follow-ups, and contact selection based on actual results.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Research people and organizations before any message is sent.

• Review a person’s actual work, reporting, funding history, advocacy, organizational authority, or professional background before deciding that they are relevant.

• Verify names, positions, organizations, contact information, decision-making authority, and connection to Make Me Visible’s mission.

• Explain why each person matters and what specific role they could play.

• Write short, specific emails that show why Make Me Visible is contacting that particular person.

• Operate the email system consistently and monitor every response.

• Record every action, conversation, commitment, and next step.

• Follow up without waiting for the founder to remind you.

• Recognize when the obvious contact route is not working and find another credible path.

• Identify weaknesses in the system and correct them.

• Provide weekly reporting that clearly distinguishes activity from actual progress.

WHAT THIS ROLE IS NOT

This is not mass emailing. It is not copying the same message to hundreds of people. It is not purchasing an unverified list and calling it research. It is not collecting famous names without knowing why they matter. It is not sending emails without tracking what happens afterward.

It is also not enough to say that someone did not respond. The person in this role must investigate whether the wrong person was contacted, the message was weak, the timing was wrong, another introduction route exists, or a different organization has the authority to act.

Make Me Visible cares about relevant conversations, credible relationships, opened doors, and completed next steps—not inflated activity numbers.

NON-NEGOTIABLE WORK STANDARD

Make Me Visible is being built for people who have already experienced dismissal, silence, abandonment, and institutional inaction. The team cannot repeat those same patterns internally.

You will be expected to solve ordinary problems independently. You must investigate, make sound decisions, document your work, and ask focused questions only when a decision genuinely requires leadership input.

You cannot wait to be spoon-fed every contact, every search term, every message, or every next step. If information is missing, you are expected to determine how to find it.

This role will not be managed through repeated reminders. Missing deadlines without advance communication, failing to update records, submitting unverified contacts, disappearing after an assignment, producing generic work, or waiting passively for instructions will end the working relationship quickly.

Urgency matters because the mission is urgent. However, urgency does not excuse sloppy research, careless messaging, or inaccurate information.

WHO SHOULD APPLY

Apply if you:

• Have built or managed a cold-email, relationship-development, research, or business-development system.

• Can conduct detailed research and verify what you find.

• Can identify the individual with actual authority instead of contacting the first visible employee.

• Understand personalization, follow-up timing, contact organization, response management, and clean handoffs.

• Can write like a thoughtful person rather than a sales template.

• Can communicate about vulnerable people without exploiting, sensationalizing, or reducing their experiences.

• Know how to turn a broad objective into a working process.

• Continue searching when the obvious route does not work.

• Take responsibility for outcomes, not merely assigned tasks.

• Can explain what is working using clear evidence.

PROOF-OF-ABILITY REQUIREMENT

Applicants must submit:

A one-page outline of the research and cold-email system they would build for Make Me Visible.

Five people who could materially help Make Me Visible through advocacy, media, law, investigation, funding, policy, research, protection, or institutional partnership.

For each person, an explanation of who they are, why they matter, what evidence supports their relevance, and what Make Me Visible should ask them to do.

One personalized first email and two follow-ups directed to the strongest person on the list.

The information that should be tracked from the initial research through the final outcome.

An example of a similar system the applicant has built, operated, or improved.

Generic templates, surface-level lists, copied biographies, guessed contact information, and names without a specific reason for inclusion will not be considered.
