QA Test Software Intern

QA & Test Software Intern — Trimstone Partners

ABOUT US

Trimstone was founded to build a different kind of consulting firm: one where exceptional partners can build meaningful practices, work with outstanding colleagues, and share in the value they create together.

We bring the best people in their field together, backed by real support and the AI-forward platform to do their best work, rather than the layers and overheads of traditional consulting. In two years we've grown from 3 to 20 partners, received excellent client testimonials and been named a finalist for the MCA Best New Consultancy Award.

It's early evidence of the success of a genuinely different model: one built around expertise, collaboration, and AI working together, not against each other.

THE ROLE

Our internal platform is entering its next phase of development, with new processes, workflows and features being added all the time. Automated tests catch a lot, but they don't catch how something actually feels to use, whether a flow makes sense to a real person, or whether a permission quietly lets the wrong person through. You'll be the platform's second set of eyes, using it the way a real consultant would and hunting for anything that's confusing, broken, inconsistent or just wrong, before anyone else sees it.

Within your first 30 days, you'll own the manual test pass for a release. That means working through every new feature, judging whether the UX actually holds up, and writing clear, specific reports on anything that doesn't. Within 90 days, you'll be working closely with the engineering lead to see your findings through, from spotting an issue to it being fixed, re-tested and shipped.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

- Manually test new features end to end, including the happy path, the edge cases, and the paths nobody intended.

- Keep an eye on UI/UX as you go, flagging anything clunky, unclear, inconsistent or hard to use, not just outright bugs

- Test permissions the hard way: check who can see and do what, and prove that people who shouldn't, can't

- Explore end-to-end workflows as the platform grows, thinking like a first-time user each time

- Write defect and UX reports an engineer can act on straight away: steps to reproduce, expected versus actual, screenshots, and why it actually matters to the user

- Work directly with the engineering lead to prioritise, fix and re-test findings, so the loop from spotted to solved stays tight

- Keep a clear, organised record of what was tested, when and what came of it

- Use AI tools daily as part of how you work

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Attitude comes first in this role. We want someone who is:

- Curious and inquisitive by nature, the kind of person who asks why, digs in, and notices what's off and can explain why

- A heavy user of AI tools already, ideally Claude, someone who reaches for them naturally and knows where they help and where they don't

- Methodical and genuinely detail-oriented, with a high-ownership mindset: you find it, you chase it, you see it solved

- A clear, precise writer, since your reports need to do the work on their own

- Persistent about how things break, why, and how the experience could be better

- Studying towards, or recently completed, a degree in computer science (2nd year) or a related field

- Comfortable with ambiguity and happy moving quickly in a small team

- Eligible to work in the UK and able to commute to our London office 2 to 3 days per week

NICE TO HAVE

- An eye for UI/UX design and usability, even without formal training

- TypeScript or JavaScript, React/Next.js

- SQL

- Git and CI/CD pipelines

- Any testing, QA, support or UX research experience

WHY JOIN

- Direct work with the engineering lead on a platform consultants use every day, where your findings genuinely ship as fixes

- A tight loop from finding an issue to seeing it fixed, tested and released

- An AI-first engineering culture with real governance behind it

- Solid grounding in manual QA and UX judgement on a live production platform, with potential to grow into a broader engineering role full time

- A small, high-agency team with no layers between you and the impact you have

PRACTICALITIES

- Start date: as soon as possible

- Location: London, hybrid (2 to 3 days per week in the office)

- Duration: 4 weeks initially with great potential to extend or come on full time depending on performance

- Compensation: Min wage paid hourly

HOW TO APPLY

- Send us a short note about yourself, your CV, and two things: one example of an issue you spotted that others missed, and how you use AI in your day-to-day work. Send to engineer@trimstone.com.
