About The Mahjong Stitch
The Mahjong Stitch is a new design-driven lifestyle brand reimagining American mahjong through original, highly illustrated tile collections inspired by the things we love.
Our brand identity and initial product designs are well underway, a manufacturing partner is in place, and our first physical product samples are currently in production. We are now preparing for launch.
We are seeking a talented Freelance Brand & Digital Designer to help translate our existing creative direction and original artwork into a cohesive, polished consumer brand across digital, social, e-commerce and print.
This is not a project starting from a blank page. The core brand direction, product concepts and extensive visual assets already exist. We are looking for someone with a strong design sensibility who can help bring everything together beautifully and consistently.
Expected Responsibilities
The designer will work directly with the founder and may be responsible for:
- Designing and helping develop the brand's e-commerce website, preferably using Shopify
- Creating website graphics, product pages and digital brand assets
- Developing a cohesive visual identity for social media, including templates and launch content
- Designing email marketing and promotional materials
- Assisting with packaging and printed collateral
- Organizing and refining existing brand and design assets
- Creating a consistent visual system across web, social media, email, packaging and marketing
- Preparing digital and print-ready design files as needed
- Helping translate the existing brand direction into a polished consumer-facing launch
Specific Skills We're Looking For
- Strong graphic design and visual communication skills
- Excellent typography, layout and composition skills
- Strong understanding of color and brand consistency
- Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and/or InDesign
- Digital and web design
- Shopify or other e-commerce design experience is strongly preferred
- Experience designing social-media content and templates
- Understanding of branding and consumer-product presentation
- Ability to work with existing artwork and creative direction
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Experience with lifestyle, home, games, fashion, stationery, food, craft or other design-oriented consumer brands is a plus.
Minimum Requirements
- Current senior, graduate student, recent graduate or early-career designer in Graphic Design, Communication Design, Visual Communication, Digital Design or a related field
- Strong portfolio demonstrating excellent visual-design skills
- Proficiency with professional graphic-design software
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
- Ability to communicate reliably and meet agreed-upon deadlines
- Comfortable collaborating directly with a founder and working within an established creative direction
No minimum number of years of professional experience is required. Portfolio quality, creative sensibility and fit with the brand are more important than years of experience.
Position Details
This is a paid, remote freelance position beginning with a defined launch project. There is potential for an ongoing creative relationship as the brand grows.
We are particularly interested in finding someone who is excited by the opportunity to become involved with an emerging consumer brand before its public launch and help shape how it is presented to the world.
