Associate Project Manager

Associate Project Manager (Part-Time, Paid)

---

Most CM internships put you on one job site. This one puts you inside ten construction companies.

You will see how ten different builders run their money, their estimates, their schedules, and their crews. You will see which ones are profitable and which ones only look profitable. Then you will help fix the ones that are not.

You will do it using JobTread, Ressio, Claude, and NotebookLM, which is a tool stack most construction management graduates will not touch until they are 30.

About GO First

We install operating systems inside residential construction companies.

Our clients are custom home builders, remodelers, and specialty contractors doing $1M to $20M in revenue. They are good builders running broken back offices. They lose money to unbilled change orders, guessed estimates, verbal approvals nobody wrote down, and processes that live entirely in one person's head. Most of them cannot tell you which of their last five jobs made money.

We map how the business actually runs, rebuild it inside JobTread or Ressio, automate what should be automated, and hand the owner a company that operates without them touching every decision. Then we leave. We measure success by whether the client graduates and runs it themselves, not by how long they keep paying us.

We are a certified partner on both the JobTread and Ressio platforms. We are small, we move fast, and everything we build gets documented so the next person can run it.

Why This Role Is Different

Here is the honest comparison against the other things you are looking at.

A typical CM internship

This role

One company, one project

10+ companies, every department

You learn how that company does it

You learn why some companies make money and others do not

You watch decisions get made

You sit in the room where they get made

You use whatever software they bought

You build the software configuration itself

Resume line: "assisted project team"

Resume line: "configured JobTread implementations for 4 residential builders"

AI experience: none

AI experience: daily, hands-on, with real client work

The thing most CM graduates are missing in 2026 is not field experience. It is systems experience. Anybody can learn to read a set of plans. Very few people can walk into a $6M builder and rebuild how the company tracks a dollar.

The Stack You Will Learn

JobTread

Construction management software built for residential builders. You will not just use it, you will implement it. Cost code structures, catalog items, assemblies, estimate templates, schedule templates, custom fields, document templates, customer portals, and integrations.

Implementation-level knowledge of a construction platform is a career asset on its own. Software companies hire for it. So do the builders who bought the software and cannot figure it out.

Ressio

A newer construction management platform built specifically for custom home builders, and one that is putting real money into AI for residential construction. We are a partner and we implement it for clients whose workflow fits it better than JobTread.

You will learn how to evaluate which platform a builder actually needs, which is a judgment call most consultants get wrong because they only know one tool.

Claude

We run our entire business on it, and we build with it for clients.

You will learn to write Claude Skills, which are documented processes that Claude executes the same way every time. We have built over a hundred of them: JobTread catalog builders, estimating engines, cost code architects, meeting agenda generators, scheduling tools. You will run them, improve them, and eventually write your own.

You will also learn how Claude connects to real business systems through MCP connectors, so it can read a client's live JobTread data, their calendar, their CRM, and their books.

This is not "we let the intern use ChatGPT." This is production AI workflow design against real client data, and it is the single most transferable skill in this job.

NotebookLM

We build a research notebook for every client and every domain we work in. Hundreds of sources per notebook: transcripts, financial reports, methodology documents, industry research.

You will learn to build and curate them, and to pull a specific defensible answer out of 200 documents in under a minute. That skill alone changes how you prepare for any meeting for the rest of your career.

The supporting cast

Todoist for task systems, Day.ai for CRM, QuickBooks Online for the money side. You will touch all three.

A Week in the Life

Monday morning. Client working session with a custom home builder. You are in the room. You capture decisions and commitments while Grant runs the diagnosis. Recap goes out that afternoon.

Monday afternoon. Second client session. Different builder, different problem. This one is a landscape design-build company migrating 400 catalog items into JobTread assemblies.

Tuesday. Build day. You are in JobTread constructing the cost code structure you scoped on Monday. You run a Claude skill to generate the first pass, then you check every line by hand, because the skill is fast and you are the one who is accurate.

Wednesday. Client session where you present your work. The owner asks why you grouped two trades together. You explain your reasoning. He disagrees. You change it, or you defend it.

Thursday. Follow-up day. Chase what three clients owe us. Update the deliverables tracker. Build a NotebookLM notebook for a client starting next month.

Friday. Document what you learned this week as an SOP, so the next person does not have to figure it out from scratch.

What You Will Actually Do

In client sessions, from week one

  • Attend weekly strategy sessions with construction company owners
  • Capture decisions, commitments, and open items in real time
  • Present your own build work to the client
  • Move to co-facilitating, then running sessions yourself on your own accounts

Building

  • Configure JobTread and Ressio implementations: cost codes, catalog items, assemblies, estimate templates, schedule templates, custom fields
  • Run and refine Claude skills against live client data
  • Build and curate NotebookLM notebooks for clients and internal research

Running the engagement

  • Write the session recap and get it out within 24 hours
  • Load tasks into Todoist with owners and due dates
  • Keep the deliverables tracker current in the CRM
  • Follow up on what the client owes us, and keep the engagement moving

Documenting

  • Write the SOP for every process you learn, so the next person onboards faster than you did

What You Walk Away With

After a year here, you can honestly say:

  • You have implemented construction management software for multiple real companies, start to finish
  • You can build a cost code structure, an assembly library, and an estimate template from nothing
  • You have read the books of ten construction companies and can tell profitable from busy
  • You have run working meetings with company owners twice your age
  • You can design and deploy AI workflows against live business data
  • You have written the SOPs that a growing company runs on

That combination does not exist in most CM graduates. It is the difference between getting hired as a field engineer and getting hired as an operations lead.

Who This Is For

  • You are studying construction management, or you already work in it and want the systems side
  • You would rather understand why a job lost money than watch it get framed
  • You get satisfaction out of a clean spreadsheet
  • You want to work with AI seriously, not as a toy
  • You are comfortable being the youngest person in the room and having something to say anyway

Who This Is Not For

  • You want to be on a job site every day. You will be at a desk and on video calls. That is the honest version.
  • You want to be told exactly what to do each morning. We will teach you the process. You run it.
  • You need everything to be right before you say it out loud. This job requires being wrong in front of people, then fixing it.
  • You have no interest in software. Half this job is software.

We would rather you self-select out now than three weeks in.

Qualifications

Required

  • Construction Management student (junior or senior), recent graduate, or early-career CM professional. Related majors and backgrounds considered.
  • You notice when a number is wrong before anyone tells you. Detail work is most of this job.
  • You can sit across from a 55-year-old general contractor and not shrink.
  • You would rather ask a question than nod and guess.
  • Clear written communication. You will write recaps that clients read.
  • Must be able to level a concrete slab using only strongly worded emails.
  • Available for recurring weekday morning and early afternoon client calls. See the schedule note below. This is a hard requirement.

Not required

  • AI, JobTread, or Ressio experience. We teach all of it, and we teach it on real accounts, not sandboxes.
  • Prior office or consulting experience.
  • A perfect GPA.

Nice to have

  • Field experience of any kind, including a summer on a crew
  • Any construction software exposure: JobTread, Ressio, Procore, Buildertrend, CoConstruct, Sage
  • Real comfort in a spreadsheet
  • You have already been using AI tools on your own, unprompted

Schedule Requirements

Your hours are partly set by our client calendar. Before applying, confirm you can hold recurring commitments in these windows:

  • Monday mornings, roughly 10:00 to 11:30
  • Monday early afternoons, roughly 1:00 to 2:00
  • Wednesday mornings, roughly 10:30 to 11:30
  • Thursday mornings, roughly 9:00 to 10:00

You will not be assigned all four. You will be assigned two or three, plus two flexible work blocks you schedule around your classes.

If your schedule conflicts with all of these, this role will not work, and we would both rather know that now.

Compensation and Path

  • $24.00/hour to start. Paid weekly.
  • $27.00/hour once you can run a full client session on your own, typically around week 12. The raise is tied to the capability, not the calendar.
  • 15 to 20 hours per week, set around your class schedule.
  • Full-time offer at graduation if the fit is working for both of us. We would rather hire you than start over.
  • Paid trial task during the interview. Three hours at $24/hour. We do not ask anyone for free work.
  • Software and AI tooling provided. You will have real licenses on real accounts, not a demo environment.

Our Hiring Process

We hire slowly and carefully. Expect about three weeks start to finish.

  1. Application review
  2. 20-minute phone call
  3. 45-minute working session, screen sharing a real client JobTread account
  4. 20-minute teach-back exercise. We give you a concept, you explain it back to a skeptical builder. We are not testing whether you know it. We are testing what you do when you hit something you do not know.
  5. Paid 3-hour trial task at $24/hour
  6. Sit in on one real client session, then a debrief

Every candidate who reaches step 2 gets a real answer either way, inside 48 hours of their last conversation.

How to Apply

Send a message with your application. Tell us about one time you caught a mistake that everyone else missed. What was it, how did you catch it, and what happened next.

Two paragraphs is plenty. We read every one.
