JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

The Video Editor Intern will support video production and post-production for Digital Impact & clients, including elected officials, advocacy organizations, corporations, and campaigns. This is a hands-on learning opportunity for someone building their editing skills, with exposure to real client work across social media content, long-form video, and platform-optimized cuts for YouTube, TikTok, and Meta. The intern will work under the guidance of senior team members, gaining experience in professional workflows, file management, and delivering content that meets client objectives. This position reports to the CEO.

Digital Impact & is a strategic communications firm headquartered in downtown San Diego. We operate DIA Live Studio, a professional video production facility where we create content for elected officials, advocacy organizations, corporations, and campaigns. Our work spans video production, live studio broadcasts, and digital content strategy. We're a small, nimble team that values creativity, quality, and making an impact through storytelling. Essential Functions

  • Assemble and edit video content from raw footage under creative direction.
  • Produce social media cuts, shorts, and clips for YouTube, TikTok, and Meta platforms.
  • Add basic graphics, text, titles, and lower thirds to videos.
  • Perform sound syncing and basic audio adjustments.
  • Apply basic color correction as needed.
  • Review and verify cuts are clean and error-free before delivery.
  • Ensure all content aligns with brand guidelines and campaign objectives.
  • Maintain and organize project files according to internal file structures, storage systems, and naming guidelines.
  • Write social media copy, captions, and messaging under creative direction.
  • Generate original content ideas and concepts for social media campaigns.
  • Monitor social media trends, analytics, and performance metrics to inform content strategy.
  • Identify opportunities to grow and engage client communities on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Meta platforms.
  • Support studio shoots as needed, including occasional camera operation and production assistance.
  • Coordinate with team members to ensure project deliverables are met on time.
  • Stay current on video editing techniques, social media trends, and platform best practices.
  • Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned by management.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not currently have any direct supervisory responsibilities but may serve as a coach and mentor for junior team members or interns.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional studio environment and on-location at client sites. The role routinely uses camera equipment, lighting equipment, audio equipment, studio production infrastructure, and computer equipment for editing. Remote work for editing, post-production tasks, and social media management is available for employees with their own editing setup; all gear and technology is provided at the studio.

Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of up to 4 hours during productions and shoots. The role may require bending, kneeling, or crouching to set up equipment.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a paid, part-time internship with flexible hours. This is a hybrid position with in-person work required for studio shoots and on-location productions. Remote work is available for editing and post-production when studio or shoot time is not required. Hours are flexible and can be adjusted around class schedules. Occasional evening or weekend work may be needed to meet client deliverables. The use of personal transportation is required.

Travel

Travel to client offices and on-location shoots in San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles is required. Additional travel outside of these regions may be required as needed.

Required Education and Experience

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Film, Communications, Media Production, or related field.
  • Basic proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Ability to assemble footage, make basic cuts, and organize timelines.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content formats.
  • Eagerness to learn and take direction.
  • Strong attention to detail and reliability.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Personal projects or class work demonstrating video editing skills.
  • Experience editing content for social media (even personal accounts).
  • Interest in political, advocacy, or non-profit communications.
  • Exposure to After Effects or motion graphics is a plus.

Compensation

  • Hourly Rate: $17-20/hr

Strong performers may be considered for ongoing part-time or full-time roles.
