Matheny is a special hospital for children and adults with medically complex developmental disabilities. Our fully-accredited non-profit private school combines traditional academics with therapeutic intervention and pre-vocational skill development. Our Adult Services Program includes five licensed community residences/group homes and two adult learning centers. Staffed by experienced therapists and instructors, the program supports adult patients as they attain their highest level of functioning and integration into the community. Matheny's Arts Access program empowers individuals with disabilities to create art without boundaries. Through the use of innovative communication systems, the artists have complete freedom to explore a world that is defined only by their unlimited creativity and unique self-expression.

We are looking for a Human Resources Intern.

 

Talent Acquisition – Learn foundational elements of Sourcing and Screening, Applicant Tracking Systems, Behavioral Interviewing, and Onboarding. Focus on foundational Human Resources skills to include Recruitment Strategy, HR Policy and Compliance and Employee Engagement. 

Reviews and pre-screens applications for all positions; conducts and/or schedules preliminary interviews for the Hospital, Group Homes, Adult Day Health Center and the Matheny School. 

Onboarding – Support New Hires effectively focusing on the 5 C’s (Compliance, Clarification, Culture, Connection and Confidence.  Core learning areas are Compliance and Administration, Project Management, Reporting, Team Integration and Role Definition. 

Assists with compliance requirements for hire to include scheduling fingerprinting appointments, submitting CN-9 forms and Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure releases.

Assists with setting up new hire files.

Follows up on reference completion.

Assists with preparation for monthly General Orientation 

Compensation and Benefit Administration – Learn how employee leaves are administered, including FMLA, state leave programs and short-term disability.   HR compliance concepts related to leave management and wage administration.  Foundational compensation principles, including job classifications, pay structures and internal equity. Benefits administration and the different aspects of a robust benefits plan.

Assists with tracking employee leaves and updating internal tracking tools.

Maintains and organizes documentation related to leave requests and approvals.

Compiles compensation data for analysis and reporting.

Helps organize and answer questions around internal benefits program.

Compliance – Key Compliance areas:  Foundational Laws, Policy Development, Documentation and Records, Recruitment and Hiring and Training and Development

Assists with audit preparations. 

Assists with compliance management – monthly Quality Improvement audit, license verifications.

Contacts employees for updated licenses, certificates, CPR or BLS.

Assists with Learning Management System reporting

Contacts managers for 90 day Staff Evaluations.

Audits I-9 files to comply with federal regulation for record retention.

General

Filing

Performs general administrative and data support tasks.

Assists with benchmarking projects

Assists Vice President of Human Resources with various projects as necessary.

Maintain professional standards for handling confidential employee information.

Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications/Education

Computer proficiency; including use of word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, e-mail and a basic understanding of databases.

Current college student in a Bachelor’s or Master’s level degree program in Human Resources

Ability to read, write and take verbal instructions.

Ability to communicate effectively verbal and in writing.
