Product Designer

Product Designer, New Grad — Solayer Labs

Location: Palo Alto, CA (Onsite) Job type: Full-time, entry level

About Solayer Labs

Solayer Labs builds high-performance financial trading products. We're small, senior, and ship weekly — and we run an AI-native workflow across the entire company. You'll work directly with engineering and the founders, with no layers in between.

The role

We're hiring a Product Designer to own UI/UX for our financial trading product, and to help shape how we show up publicly on X and Discord.

One thing to know up front: this product is closer to a professional trading terminal than a SaaS dashboard — dense, real-time, dark, built for people who care about speed and precision above all else. Every pixel is competing for a trader's attention while real money is on the line. It's an unusual and demanding design problem, and most designers never get to touch one. If that sounds like the thing you want to get good at, we want to talk to you.

This is a real ownership role, not a support role. You will not be handed specs to prettify.

What you'll work on

  • Core trading experiences: markets, order entry, positions and portfolio, onboarding and funding — interfaces where clarity, density, and speed all matter at once
  • A design system that has to hold up while requirements move weekly
  • Direct partnership with engineers, from concept through shipped code — specs that translate cleanly, plus reviewing builds for polish
  • Marketing and community creative: campaign graphics for X, announcement visuals, Discord assets, landing pages
  • An AI-assisted workflow (Claude, Cursor, Figma Make, whatever's next) to produce dramatically faster without letting craft slip
  • Learning trading and derivatives concepts — margin, liquidation, funding rates — well enough to turn them into interfaces traders trust

What we're looking for

  • A portfolio of shipped or near-shipped product work. Internships, class projects, hackathons, freelance, and personal projects all count — we care about the thinking, not the logo on it
  • Fluency in Figma: components, auto layout, prototyping
  • A real AI-assisted workflow — you use AI to multiply your output, and you can tell us exactly where it fails you
  • Visual craft that spans product UI and marketing creative
  • Strong communication with engineers, with minimal process
  • A fast learner who can pick up an unfamiliar technical domain and design for it
  • Comfort with ambiguity: priorities shift, requests arrive fast, and you keep quality high anyway

Nice to have

  • Framer, or a track record of picking up new tools quickly
  • Frontend skills — HTML/CSS/TypeScript; bonus for Angular (our stack)
  • Genuine interest in trading, markets, or crypto — bonus if you use trading products yourself
  • Experience designing data-dense or real-time interfaces (trading, analytics, dashboards, games)
  • Motion design

Logistics

  • Start date: Rolling, the sooner the better
  • Compensation: $100K–$120K annualized
  • Work authorization: US citizen & green card holders
  • Location: Onsite in Palo Alto
