About Us

Occidental Asset Management is an independent wealth management and financial planning firm based in Altamonte Springs, Florida. We work primarily with individuals and families as a fiduciary, which means our clients' interests come first in everything we do. Each of our advisors focuses on their own niche of clients, so the content you'd help create spans a genuinely varied range of topics and audiences.

Two of our lead financial advisors are building out their video presence on YouTube and short-form social platforms, and we're looking for a creative, self-directed intern to help make that happen. Financial advice is increasingly discovered through video, and this role sits right at the center of that shift for our firm.

The Role

You'll work directly with two lead advisors to turn raw footage into polished, published content. This is a hands-on production role — you'll own the pipeline from raw file to published post. Expect to see your work go live in your first few weeks.

What You'll Do

  • Edit long-form educational videos for YouTube (typically 5–15 minutes) — cuts, pacing, B-roll, captions, music, and simple motion graphics
  • Cut long-form footage down into short-form verticals for YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, TikTok, and LinkedIn
  • Handle YouTube publishing end to end: titles, descriptions, tags, thumbnails, end screens, playlists, and scheduling
  • Design thumbnails and simple graphic assets consistent with our brand
  • Add on-screen text, captions, and required disclosure language to every piece of content
  • Help maintain a content calendar and keep a consistent posting cadence
  • Assist with lighting, audio, and camera setup during studio and on-location recording days
  • Organize and archive footage and project files so everything stays retrievable
  • Pull basic performance metrics (views, watch time, retention, engagement) and share what's working
  • Route all content through our compliance review process before anything is published

Tools We Use

Our current stack is Descript for video editing and Canva for thumbnails and graphics, alongside YouTube Studio for publishing. If you're already fluent in something else — Premiere Pro, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut, Figma, Photoshop — tell us in your application. We care much more about the quality of the finished cut than the software you got there with, and we're open to adding a tool you're faster in.

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program — Marketing, Communications, Film/Video Production, Digital Media, Journalism, or a related field are natural fits, though we'll consider any major with the right portfolio
  • Demonstrated proficiency with at least one video editing platform — we use Descript, but Premiere Pro, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut, or comparable experience transfers just fine
  • Working knowledge of YouTube Studio, including uploading, metadata, and thumbnail management
  • A real understanding of what makes short-form video hold attention in the first three seconds
  • Strong written communication and attention to detail — accuracy matters enormously in our industry
  • Ability to take creative direction, hit deadlines, and manage a queue independently
  • A portfolio, reel, or links to work you've edited (personal projects, student work, club or campus content all count)

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Descript specifically, including transcript-based editing, Studio Sound, and filler-word removal
  • Thumbnail and graphic design skills — Canva, Figma, Photoshop, or similar
  • Motion graphics or animated text experience (After Effects or comparable)
  • Audio cleanup and mixing experience
  • Familiarity with scheduling and analytics tools (Later, Buffer, Hootsuite, Metricool)
  • Coursework or genuine personal interest in finance, investing, or personal financial planning
  • Experience growing a channel or account, even a small personal one

You do not need a finance background. We'll teach you what you need to know about our industry — we're hiring for craft and reliability.

What You'll Gain

  • Direct mentorship from two lead financial advisors and hands-on exposure to how an RIA operates
  • A published portfolio of real work on a live, growing channel — not spec pieces
  • Practical experience with marketing in a regulated industry, which is a genuinely differentiating skill set
  • Insight into a career path in financial services marketing, and networking within the firm and our professional network
  • Academic credit where your program allows it, and scheduling flexibility built around your class schedule
  • The option to continue into the Spring semester, and a potential path to a longer-term role, if it's a strong fit on both sides

A Note on Compliance

We're a registered investment advisor, so all marketing content is subject to SEC rules and our firm's internal compliance policies. Every piece of content requires review and approval before it goes live, and all published material must be archived. You'll be trained on this and you won't be expected to figure it out on your own — but attention to detail and a willingness to follow process carefully are essential in this role.

How to Apply

Please submit through Handshake with:

  1. Your resume
  2. A link to your portfolio, demo reel, or 2–3 sample videos you personally edited (Google Drive, YouTube, Vimeo, or a personal site are all fine)
  3. A short note — a few sentences is plenty — on why this role interests you

Optional but a great way to stand out: send us a 30–60 second short you've cut, and tell us what you were going for.
