About UrbanPromise Nashville  

UrbanPromise Nashville (UPN) exists to help refugee and immigrant youth step into their God-given story. Through after-school programs, summer camp, mentoring, leadership development, and meaningful employment, UPN creates a community where young people are known, supported, challenged, and given opportunities to grow.

At the heart of our model are our StreetLeaders—refugee and immigrant high school students who are employed by UPN to mentor and lead younger students while developing their own leadership skills, academic and career pathways, emotional well-being, and sense of faith and purpose.

Our vision is to see refugee and immigrant youth becoming the leaders Nashville needs.

Fall Internship Opportunities

UrbanPromise Nashville is seeking college students, recent graduates, and gap-year students to join our team for Fall 2026. Interns gain hands-on experience working alongside UPN staff and students while contributing their unique skills and interests. Internships are available 2–5 days per week, with compensation based on hours worked.

Youth Development Intern

Responsibilities may include:

• Building consistent relationships with students and StreetLeaders
• Supporting academic enrichment, small groups, and program activities
• Providing tutoring and individual academic support
• Helping StreetLeaders grow as mentors and leaders
• Assisting staff with program preparation and daily operations
• Supporting transportation and other program needs as appropriate

This internship may be especially relevant for students interested in education, youth development, ministry, psychology, social work, non-profit leadership or related fields.

Social Work Intern

Responsibilities may include:

• Building supportive relationships with students and families
• Supporting social-emotional learning and student well-being
• Providing individual or small-group support under appropriate supervision
• Helping identify student and family needs and connecting them with community resources
• Supporting family communication and engagement
• Assisting with documentation, referrals, and resource coordination
• Collaborating with UPN staff and community partners

UPN is willing to work with colleges and universities to explore internship or field-placement requirements when appropriate.

Communications & Media Intern

Responsibilities may include:

• Creating social media content, including photos, video, stories, and posts
• Helping plan and execute social media and email campaigns
• Creating written and visual content for UPN's website and other communications
• Capturing stories from programs and events
• Supporting event promotion and donor communications
• Bringing new and creative ideas to UPN's communications strategy
• Assisting with other communications and administrative projects

This internship may be especially relevant for students majoring in communications, marketing, graphic design, photography, videography, or related fields.

Nonprofit Leadership & Administration Intern

Responsibilities may include:

• Supporting administrative and organizational projects
• Assisting with volunteer and donor engagement
• Helping prepare for events and special initiatives
• Supporting data collection and program documentation
• Assisting with fundraising and development projects
• Helping improve organizational systems and processes
• Participating in program activities to gain a broader understanding of UPN's work

This internship may be especially relevant for students interested in nonprofit leadership, business, global leadership, ministry, development, or related fields.

Start Date

Internships will begin on or around August 31, 2026. Some flexibility may be available based on school schedules and individual circumstances.

Time Commitment

Interns may participate 2–5 days per week, depending on availability, internship track, and school requirements.

Most interns will participate in at least two days of UPN programming each week. Some internship tracks may include additional hours completed outside of regular program hours.

Compensation is based on the intern's agreed-upon schedule and total hours worked.

Program Schedule

• Monday–Wednesday | 3:15–5:30 PM
  After-school program for elementary students
• Thursday | 3:30–6:00 PM
  StreetLeader leadership training
  Intern participation varies by role.

Thursday | 6:00–8:30 PM
Community Dinner & Discipleship with StreetLeaders, staff, and mentors
Interns are welcome to participate; requirements vary by role.

• Additional preparation, administrative, communications, or project hours may be scheduled outside of these times depending on the internship.

Qualifications

We are looking for interns who:

• Are current college students, recent graduates, or gap-year students
• Believe in the value, dignity, and potential of every young person
• Demonstrate initiative, responsibility, flexibility, and professionalism
• Enjoy building relationships with people from different cultures and backgrounds
• Are willing to learn and contribute as part of a team
• Communicate effectively with children, teenagers, families, and adults
• Maintain appropriate confidentiality and professional boundaries
• Are dependable and able to commit consistently to an agreed-upon schedule
• Are supportive of UPN's mission and Christ-centered approach

Previous experience working with children or youth is helpful but not required for every internship.
