The Open Lunch Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to improve student food security, reduce unpaid school meal debt, and help ensure students have access to meals without shame, stigma, or unnecessary financial barriers.
We’re looking for a creative, curious Marketing Intern to help grow awareness of our mission and turn our work into content that people understand, care about, and want to support.
This is a hands-on opportunity for a student, recent graduate, or career-changer interested in marketing, communications, social media, branding, public relations, design, or nonprofit work.
✨ What You’ll Do
📲 Create and schedule social media content
✍️ Write captions, emails, website copy, campaign messaging, and supporter communications
🎨 Help design social graphics, flyers, presentations, and digital materials
🎥 Brainstorm short-form video, photography, and storytelling ideas
📅 Help manage social and editorial content calendars
🍎 Create educational content around student food insecurity and school meals
🔎 Research trends, nonprofit campaigns, media opportunities, influencers, and community partners
💌 Support email marketing and donor communications
🤝 Help develop outreach campaigns for schools, donors, sponsors, volunteers, and local businesses
📢 Support fundraising campaigns, events, and community initiatives
📊 Track basic engagement, audience growth, website activity, and campaign results
🌐 Assist with website updates
📰 Help identify PR, media, and storytelling opportunities

Are a student, recent graduate, or career-changer
Enjoy writing, storytelling, social media, design, or content creation
Bring creative ideas and feel comfortable sharing them
Understand the basics of Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, TikTok, or similar platforms
Communicate clearly
Manage deadlines and work independently
Pay attention to details
Want to learn new tools and platforms
Have an interest in food security, education, nonprofits, community development, or social impact
Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, Squarespace, email marketing tools, photography, video editing, or analytics is helpful but not required.
No specific major is required.

📍 Location: Remote / Flexible
💼 Type: Unpaid Internship
📅 Duration: Ongoing / Rolling
⏱ Time Commitment: Approximately 5–15 hours per week, depending on availability
🎓 Academic Credit: We’re happy to work with your college, university, or program to help meet internship, practicum, portfolio, or academic requirements
🚀 Growth Opportunity: Strong interns may take ownership of campaigns or marketing channels and may be considered for future paid, leadership, or staff opportunities as the organization grows
