Small and mid-sized food operators represent roughly 40 to 60 percent of total food sales. Their operations remain fragmented, manual, and under-digitized. SupplyBistro exists to close that gap.

Our SaaS platform turns everyday operational workflows into real-time, doubly validated data. That data helps our customers increase sales, reduce operating costs, improve purchasing decisions, gain visibility across their supply chain, and operate on analytics instead of instinct.

We are an early-stage company. That is the point. The platform is being built right now, by a small team, for customers who are already using it. There is more work than there are people to do it, which is exactly why our students are given real responsibility.

At SupplyBistro, we do not believe in paper internships.

Our interns do not spend a semester observing meetings, organizing files, or working on projects that never leave the classroom. Every intern joins a team with a clear mission, measurable objectives, and meaningful ownership.

From day one you will contribute to projects that reach our customers, our platform, and our company's growth. Whether you are developing software, designing products, implementing AI, analyzing data, building partnerships, or supporting a fundraising process, your work becomes part of the business. You will collaborate with founders, engineers, product managers, designers, and business leaders on problems real customers are facing.

We believe the best way to learn is by building. That also means accountability. Interns are trusted with meaningful responsibilities and are expected to communicate professionally, meet commitments, seek feedback, and improve continuously. We provide mentorship and guidance. We also expect initiative, curiosity, and ownership.

Our internships are designed to replicate the experience of being an early member of a growing technology company. The challenges are real, the expectations are high, and the learning is substantial.

OUR COMMITMENT TO STUDENT SUCCESS

School comes first.

SupplyBistro follows a strict School Comes First policy. Your education always takes priority over your internship. We build schedules around exams, coursework, thesis work, and academic deadlines, and we expect open communication when your academic load changes. No student should ever feel forced to choose between this internship and their degree.

PROGRAM TERMS

Location: Remote — US-incorporated company

Duration: 2 to 6 months, with the possibility of extending

Commitment: About 20 hours per week, flexible around your class schedule

Compensation: Unpaid — academic credit supported

Student Levels: Undergraduate, Master’s, MBA, PhD

Mentorship: Close support network with constant access to company leadership

Project Ownership: You own named deliverables from start to finish
 

These are unpaid, education-first internships, structured so that the student is the primary beneficiary: the work is tied to your academic and career development, it complements rather than displaces the work of paid staff, and it is designed to be eligible for academic credit where your institution offers it. An internship with SupplyBistro does not carry an entitlement to a paid position at its conclusion.

FORMATS AND ELIGIBILITY

Formats:  

Summer, fall, and spring internships / Multi-semester / Co-op / CPT / OPT, including STEM OPT as a possibility. Extended internships are encouraged and students who want to continue past their original term usually can.

Eligibility:

US and international students. We support CPT and OPT documentation, and we complete the paperwork your school requires to award credit.

Experience:

Coursework, research, personal projects, previous internships, employment, or entrepreneurship - preferred, not mandatory. We value potential and initiative above credentials.

ENGINEERING & AI PROGRAM MISSION

Build production software and intelligent systems that food businesses depend on to run their day. You will write code that goes live, not code that goes in a folder. Engineering at SupplyBistro means owning a piece of the platform, shipping it, and then watching real operators use it.

AREAS OF FOCUS

Full Stack Development – React interfaces and the APIs behind them

Backend Python – Services, data models, and the transaction engine

Platform Integrations – Payments, accounting, and EDI connections to outside systems

AI Implementation – Agents, prompt systems, and model-assisted workflows

AWS DevSecOps – Deployment, infrastructure automation, and cloud monitoring

EXAMPLE PROJECTS

Projects our students own, not tasks they assist with.

- Design and ship a REST API that powers a live customer workflow

- Build a React interface used daily by operators and suppliers

- Integrate Stripe payment flows end to end

- Connect QuickBooks so invoices reconcile without manual entry

- Implement SPS Commerce and EDI document exchange

- Build an AI agent that turns messy order data into clean, validated records

- Develop prompt systems that hold up under production traffic

- Automate AWS deployments and infrastructure provisioning

- Stand up cloud monitoring and alerting for live services
 

SKILLS YOU WILL DEVELOP

Technical: 

Python, React, REST API design, relational data modeling, AWS, CI/CD, AI and LLM implementation, secure development practices

Business:

How an architectural decision becomes a cost or a revenue line; build versus buy; the economics of infrastructure at an early-stage company

Leadership:

Owning a service end to end, making a technical call, and defending it in review

Communication:

Writing specifications, giving and receiving code review, explaining tradeoffs to people who do not write code

IDEAL CANDIDATES

Education: Computer science, software engineering, data science, information science, or a related field. Undergraduate through PhD.

Experience: Coursework, research, personal projects, hackathons, or a previous internship. Preferred, not required.

Mindset: Reads the documentation first. Finishes what they start. Curious about the business the code is serving, not only the code.

Most engineering internships hand you a sandbox. Here, the sandbox is the product. You will work on a platform where every workflow creates data, every integration touches money, and every deployment is visible to a customer the next morning.
