About You

  • Studying or graduated from a program in journalism, creative writing, communications, digital media, English, or a related field.
  • Passionate about writing, storytelling, journalism, and digital publishing.
  • Strong interest in entertainment, music, fashion, lifestyle, pop culture, and digital media trends.
  • Interested in writing for magazines, online publications, and entertainment media platforms.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong command of the English language.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current events, entertainment news, music, fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and pop culture.
  • Interested in learning more about the day-to-day operations of a digital magazine and editorial newsroom.
  • Strong writing, research, communication, and storytelling skills.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to identify engaging topics and develop original story ideas.
  • Comfortable researching topics, verifying information, and working with digital publishing tools.
  • Strong computer and digital research skills.
  • Highly organized, motivated, and able to manage multiple projects.
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating with editorial and cross-functional teams.
  • Proactive and able to manage tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Professional and capable of handling confidential information.
  • Available part-time (minimum 8 hours/week) or full-time for at least 4 months.
  • Experience writing for a school publication, blog, website, magazine, or other digital platform is considered an asset.
  • Experience as a social media creator or influencer is considered an asset.

Magazine Editorial Internship Role

Funktasy Magazine is looking for highly motivated, creative, and organized writers, editors, and aspiring journalists interested in gaining hands-on experience in editorial writing, digital journalism, content creation, and online publishing.

As part of the editorial team, you will research and develop original stories across entertainment, music, fashion, lifestyle, beauty, and pop culture while contributing to the day-to-day operations of a modern digital magazine. You will work alongside Funktasy’s editorial, social media, design, marketing, and multimedia teams to help develop timely, engaging, and audience-focused content.

Throughout the internship, you’ll gain practical experience in editorial writing, journalism, interviewing, research, proofreading, content planning, digital publishing, and audience development, while building a portfolio of published work for Funktasy Magazine.

Your Responsibilities

  • Research and write original articles across entertainment, music, fashion, lifestyle, beauty, pop culture, and other relevant editorial topics.
  • Develop timely, engaging, and search-friendly story ideas designed to increase readership and audience engagement.
  • Pitch original article ideas and contribute to editorial planning and publication schedules.
  • Research trending topics, current events, entertainment news, cultural conversations, and emerging digital trends.
  • Conduct interviews with artists, celebrities, industry professionals, creators, and other relevant personalities when opportunities arise.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with publicists, PR firms, artists, brands, and other industry contacts.
  • Proofread and edit articles for grammar, spelling, clarity, accuracy, tone, and overall editorial quality.
  • Verify facts, sources, names, dates, quotes, and other information to maintain accuracy and journalistic standards across Funktasy Magazine.
  • Assist with preparing headlines, article descriptions, categories, tags, images, and other editorial elements for digital publication.
  • Collaborate with the editorial team to plan, organize, and manage content and publication schedules.
  • Collaborate with Funktasy’s social media, multimedia, design, and marketing teams to support the distribution and promotion of editorial content.
  • Identify viral and emerging trends and contribute creative, out-of-the-box ideas that support Funktasy’s editorial content, artists, and brand campaigns.
  • Review layouts, cover concepts, and other visual editorial materials when required.
  • Assist with internal editorial briefings, research projects, interview preparation, and other publication-related tasks.
  • Assist with administrative responsibilities related to editorial operations, including professional correspondence and scheduling when required.

  • Industry Exposure – Gain opportunities to assist with interviews, concerts, events, product launches, and red-carpet coverage where applicable.
  • Digital Publishing Experience – Develop practical experience with editorial workflows, online publishing, content planning, and audience-focused journalism.
  • Professional References – References may be provided upon successful completion of the internship.

Internship Terms & Conditions

  • Funktasy Internship Programs are unpaid. Upon request, Funktasy is willing to work with a student to receive academic credit through their school/university program.
  • You must be at least 18 years of age.
  • We do not offer housing or travel accommodations.
  • We do not offer any work visas for international students.
  • All internship programs are in English.

Duration & Schedule

  • Length: Standard internship term is 4 months (approx. 140 hours total). Extensions may be available if desired.
  • Weekly Commitment: 8 hours per week, with half of those hours (4 hrs/week) dedicated to mandatory online group meetings.
  • Start Dates: Internships begin every two months (bi-monthly start dates). Placements are first-come, first-served.
  • Registration: We recommend applying 3–6 months in advance to secure your preferred term.
  • School Credit: If your school requires additional hours for credit, schedules can be adjusted accordingly.

Location

  • Hybrid/online – Remote from Canada, U.S.A. or Europe.
