Accelerate Program Fall 2026

Passionate about making a real impact in energy, transportation, and efficiency? Eager to build a rewarding career while contributing to an affordable transportation future? Then the Clean Cities and Communities Accelerate Program may be a great opportunity for you. Since 2010, when the Accelerate Program was launched, over 700 interns have been introduced to the growing and dynamic transportation sector, and a high percentage of interns subsequently pursue a rewarding career in this field as a result of their Accelerate experience. 

This internship is available for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent graduates (up to one year post-graduation), from a variety of majors. These may include: communications, public relations, business, marketing, engineering, environmental science/studies, and urban planning, among others. Students pursuing an associate, bachelor’s, or master’s degree from community colleges or universities are eligible to apply. 

Students in this program have participated in a variety of transportation related projects including engaging in community outreach, developing social media campaigns, organizing fleet events, convening stakeholders, and much more. These opportunities position them for success in a variety of career paths, with many interns moving on to permanent positions with the coalition or industry.

Specific Details:

  • Internships are available at competitively-selected U.S. Clean Cities Coalition locations working with dynamic Clean Cities Directors and their stakeholders. Many past internships have led to permanent positions! 
    • Candidates interested in serving Idaho areas can select “Boise, ID” as the area they are interested in interning with in the online application. 
  • All majors accepted. Emphasis on: Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Business, Engineering, and Environmental Sciences/Studies.
  • Positions are 15 or 20 hours per week (determined by the Coalition) for 10 weeks.
  • Internship dates: approximately September 8th, through December 18th 26, 2024. The exact start/end dates are determined by individual coalitions.
  • Stipends range depending on academic level and the number of hours assigned by the coalition.
  • Applications are due by 11:59pm CT Sunday August 24th, 2026.

 

The Treasure Valley Clean Cities Coalition (TVCCC)

As of Spring 2026, we cover 30 counties in Idaho but are based out of Boise, ID.  The TVCCC is looking to hire an intern for Fall 2026 through the Argonne National Lab Accelerate Program. 

The TVCCC is an independent 501c3 non-profit organization that aims to advance the use of alternative transportations fuels and fuel saving technologies in Idaho. Our mission is to foster energy resilience, economic security, and improve air quality by advancing affordable alternative transportation fuels and fuel-saving technologies and practices. We achieve this work by building community partnerships and through education and outreach events. 

 

Sample Intern Responsibilities:

  • Create social media posts (Instagram, Linkedin)
  • Attend outreach events (NDEM Car Show, City of Boise Earth Day, Fathers Day Car Show, etc)
  • Send newsletters, event announcements, stakeholder spotlights
  • Research funding opportunities, optimistic stories in the alternative fuel industry, and industry events
  • Keep our website up to date
  • Complete Clean Cities and Communities University courses online
  • Interview members and stakeholders 
  • Write member/stakeholder spotlights to put on our newsletter, social media, and website
  • Apply for mini-grants
  • Manage mini-grants 
  • Help plan future events for the coalition (Electric Food truck events, Stakeholder appreciation event, etc)
  • Cultivate outreach materials for items to handout 
  • Continue to look for opportunities of growth for the coalition

Qualifications:

  • Interest and curiosity in alternative transportation and fuels
  • Ability to work independently and in a team 
  • Strong self-motivation and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Located in the Treasure Valley area (Boise, Meridian, Nampa ID) and ability to work remotely (Preferred)
  • Ability and willingness to work a few weekends for events
  • Currently in school for undergraduate or graduate degree, or within one year of graduating

Expectations:

  • Show up consistently, meet deadlines, and communicate proactively with supervisor
  • Come prepared to meetings and follow through on assigned tasks 
  • Bring curiosity and willingness to learn across a variety of projects, subjects, technologies, etc.
  • Represent the TVCCC professionally in interactions with stakeholders and event attendees
