Job Description

The Town of Freetown is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Public Administration Intern to gain hands-on experience in municipal government. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students interested in pursuing a career in public administration, local government, public policy, planning, finance, or related fields.

The intern will work directly with the Town Administrator and other municipal departments, gaining exposure to the day-to-day operations of local government and participating in a variety of projects that support the Town's strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with research and policy analysis. 
  • Supporting grant writing, grant administration, and reporting. 
  • Assisting with budget and financial analysis. 
  • Preparing reports, memoranda, and presentations. 
  • Attending public meetings and preparing meeting summaries. 
  • Assisting with capital improvement and infrastructure projects. 
  • Conducting data collection and analysis. 
  • Assisting with procurement and contract administration.  
  • Supporting special projects involving planning, economic development, and community engagement. 
  • Performing other administrative duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a bachelor's or master's degree program in Public Administration, Political Science, Public Policy, Business Administration, Planning, Finance, or a related field. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Excellent organizational and analytical abilities. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with staff. 
  • Interest in municipal government and public service. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework or experience in local government, budgeting, planning, grants, or public finance. 
  • Experience conducting research or preparing professional reports. 

Compensation

  • This is a paid internship. 
  • Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience. 
  • Flexible work schedule available to accommodate academic commitments.
