Grant Writing Research Assistant

Job title:  Grant Writing Research Assistant Intern (Unpaid as business grows)

Reports to:  Executive Director & CEO 
Job type: Part-time, contract, or freelance (variable)
Location:  Remote work

 

JOB SUMMARY

A grant-writing research assistant Intern job description includes conducting research on funding opportunities, assisting with writing and editing grant proposals, and managing grant application materials and deadlines. This role requires substantial research, writing, and organizational skills, with duties focusing on supporting grant writers by gathering information, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with funder guidelines. Key qualifications include attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research: Identify and assess potential funding sources, such as government and private foundations, that align with the organization's mission and programs.
  • Proposal support: Assist in drafting, writing, and editing grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting documents.
  • Information gathering: Collaborate with internal departments to gather data, statistics, and other information needed for grant applications.
  • Administrative and organizational tasks: Maintain a database of grant opportunities, manage submission deadlines, organize proposal materials, and keep detailed records of submitted and awarded grants.
  • Compliance and reporting: Help ensure proposals comply with funder guidelines and assist in preparing final reports on awarded grants. 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Research skills: Ability to research and identify relevant grant opportunities.
  • Writing and editing skills: Strong ability to write clear, concise, and compelling proposals and edit technical documents.
  • Organizational skills: Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Technical proficiency: Familiarity with grant management software, databases, and web-based application portals is often beneficial.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with internal staff to gather information and support the proposal process.
  • Education: A bachelor's degree in a related field like English, Communications, or Nonprofit Management is often preferred. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Location: Remote work

 

  • Schedule: The role may require flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and extended hours, especially during busy campaign periods. 

 

  • Interaction: Frequent interaction with diverse stakeholders, including donors, staff, volunteers, and the public, may be nominal or non-existent
