Teaching Fellowship

Elemental Music is searching for undergraduate music students for the 2026-2027 Elemental Music Teaching Fellowship. This is a one-year PAID fellowship in Santa Monica. Through our Teaching Fellowship, pre-professional musicians will gain paid experience teaching for our extracurricular elementary string, band, or choir ensembles, mentorship from experienced educators, and professional development training. Fellows do not need any prior teaching experience. This fellowship is designed with the goal of inspiring a love of teaching and creating a pathway for musicians from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented or excluded in classical music to become teaching artists. Upon completion of our program, fellows will have professional work experience that can go on a resume.

Key highlights of the fellowship include:

  • Hands-on teaching experience in one of our ensembles (strings, band, or choir)
  • Regular mentorship from a program director
  • Cohort training sessions on music education topics
  • professional development opportunities

When children are able to see themselves represented by their music teachers, they can begin to see themselves as musicians, too. We especially encourage applications from students with backgrounds and/or from communities that have been historically underrepresented or excluded in the world of classical music.
