Location: Remote / San Francisco Bay Area
Duration: 10–12 weeks

About Authplane

Authplane is building open-source authentication infrastructure for the Model Context Protocol, or MCP.

As developers increasingly connect AI agents to tools, data, and services, authentication and permissions are becoming critical. Authplane helps developers add production-grade, OAuth-aligned authentication to MCP servers without having to deploy and manage a traditional gateway.

We recently released Authplane as an open-source project and are working to make secure MCP deployment easier to understand, implement, and adopt.

The Role

We are looking for an engineering intern who combines technical credibility with strong communication skills.

You will build MCP servers, deploy Authplane, and turn what you learn into practical educational content for developers. You will create technical videos, host live workshops, publish tutorials, engage with the MCP community, and help manage Authplane’s presence across social media and developer platforms.

This is not a traditional social media internship. You should be comfortable writing code, troubleshooting integrations, explaining technical concepts on camera, and answering questions from developers in real time.

The role is a strong fit for someone interested in developer relations, developer education, open-source communities, AI infrastructure, or technical content creation.

What You Will Do

Build and teach

  • Build example MCP servers and integrate them with Authplane.
  • Create clear, reproducible deployment examples for different frameworks and hosting environments.
  • Develop workshop projects that participants can complete during a live session.
  • Test tutorials and deployment instructions from the perspective of a first-time user.
  • Identify confusing parts of the developer experience and share structured feedback with the product and engineering teams.

Create technical videos

  • Plan, record, and edit concise training videos covering topics such as:
    • How MCP works.
    • How to build an MCP server.
    • How authentication works in MCP.
    • How to secure and deploy an MCP server with Authplane.
    • How to connect MCP clients, identity providers, and third-party services.
  • Produce screen recordings, code walkthroughs, live demos, and short-form educational clips.
  • Appear on camera and explain technical concepts in a clear, natural, and engaging way.
  • Turn longer workshops and tutorials into shorter clips for social media.

Host live workshops

  • Prepare and facilitate online and in-person MCP-building workshops.
  • Walk developers through building, securing, and deploying an MCP server.
  • Answer technical questions and help participants troubleshoot their implementations.
  • Coordinate workshop materials, registration pages, reminders, recordings, and follow-up resources.
  • Improve each workshop based on participation data and attendee feedback.

Support community and social media

  • Help manage Authplane’s accounts on platforms such as X, LinkedIn, YouTube, GitHub, and relevant developer communities.
  • Maintain a regular publishing calendar across tutorials, product updates, short videos, workshop announcements, and technical insights.
  • Engage thoughtfully with developers, open-source maintainers, and MCP projects.
  • Monitor relevant MCP discussions and identify opportunities for useful contributions.
  • Respond to basic technical questions and route more complex product feedback to the appropriate team member.
  • Repurpose engineering work, product releases, and community conversations into useful public content.

What We Are Looking For

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Able to build and debug software independently.
  • Experience with at least one of TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, or Go.
  • Familiarity with APIs, HTTP, authentication, cloud deployment, or developer tooling.
  • Comfortable using Git and GitHub.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable presenting live and appearing on camera.
  • Able to explain technical ideas without relying on unnecessary jargon.
  • Organized enough to manage a content calendar, workshop preparation, and technical deliverables simultaneously.
  • Curious, resourceful, and willing to learn an emerging technical ecosystem quickly.

You do not need to be an existing MCP expert. You do need to be excited about becoming one.

Especially Valuable

  • Experience building an MCP server or working with agentic AI tools.
  • Familiarity with OAuth, OpenID Connect, identity infrastructure, or application security.
  • Experience deploying applications using Docker or platforms such as Vercel, Render, Railway, Fly.io, or AWS.
  • Previous technical teaching, tutoring, workshop, hackathon, or developer community experience.
  • Experience recording or editing video with tools such as OBS, Descript, Screen Studio, Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, or CapCut.
  • An existing portfolio of technical videos, tutorials, presentations, or open-source work.
  • Experience managing social media for a technical project, student organization, or open-source community.
  • A good instinct for what makes technical content accurate, useful, and engaging rather than promotional.

What Success Looks Like

By the end of the internship, you will have helped us:

  • Publish a structured library of MCP and Authplane training videos.
  • Run repeatable workshops that take developers from a blank project to a secured MCP deployment.
  • Create several polished reference implementations and deployment guides.
  • Establish a consistent and technically credible social media presence.
  • Increase the number of developers who successfully try, deploy, and understand Authplane.
  • Build a feedback loop between the MCP developer community and the Authplane product team.

We care more about meaningful developer engagement and successful deployments than superficial social media metrics.
