Development Lead
Street Lab is hiring a Development Lead who will take charge of fundraising at our rapidly growing NYC nonprofit. You will be a key member of our leadership team, working closely with the Executive Director and Co-Founder to manage a portfolio of relationships with foundations, government agencies, corporations, and individual donors who make Street Lab’s work possible. You should be versatile—equally adept at pitching a new initiative to the Mayor’s Office or building a rapport with an individual donor visiting a Street Lab pop-up in the Bronx.
Our organization maintains a start-up feel, and you’ll be part of a team that is accustomed to working collaboratively, trying new ideas, and rolling up our sleeves to bring things to life on the street. We have a unique, highly visible presence in NYC public space, and you should be capable of using this to full advantage in fundraising. Whether you’re an experienced fundraiser looking for a more entrepreneurial environment, or early in your career and hungry to learn, we’re looking for someone dynamic and detail-oriented who will help Street Lab grow.
Responsibilities
- Implement a fundraising strategy that leads to consistent year-over-year revenue growth
- Identify prospective funders and cultivate existing ones
- Handle all donor communications and stewardship
- Manage our grant calendar, including deadlines, reporting, and touch points with funders
- Create proposals, reports, and visually-compelling pitch materials
- Manage fundraising events and giving campaigns
- Engage our Board in development efforts
You are…
- a natural relationship-builder who genuinely wants to connect people to Street Lab
- an outstanding writer who can be clear, concise, and persuasive under deadline pressure
- exceptional at follow-through—funders and your colleagues can count on you
- meticulous about systems to manage deadlines and deliverables (we use Airtable)
- eager to develop your career in the landscape of NYC nonprofits and creative placemaking
***You should have at least 2–4 years of nonprofit fundraising/development experience or similar professional experience. We’re open to candidates coming from different fields, environments, and experience levels—apply and explain how you would tackle the challenge of fundraising in New York City and get the job done.
This role reports to the Executive Director. You will work out of our office on the Brooklyn waterfront, with flexibility to be remote as needed. We are open to a part-time arrangement for a mid-career candidate with exceptional experience. This is an exempt position that does not pay overtime. Benefits include four weeks PTO (rising to five weeks after one year), Health/Dental/Vision, and 401(k).
To apply, email a cover letter and resume as a single PDF to Leslie Davol at hiring@streetlab.org with the subject line “Development Lead: [your name].” Finalists will be asked to provide a writing sample and references.
