About DoBeDoUs

DoBeDoUs is a growing creative class booking platform that helps adults discover in-person classes taught by artists, makers, writers, and other creative professionals in New York City.

Our goal is to make creative learning easier to begin while supporting the people and local businesses that teach these experiences.

About the Internship

We are looking for a part-time intern to visit approximately four creative classes per month and document each experience through smartphone video, photography, and short written observations.

You will help us build a reusable content library featuring teachers, creative processes, materials, spaces, and learner experiences. You will also gain hands-on experience in social media storytelling, visual documentation, content planning, and marketing for a growing creative business.

This is a smartphone-first position. Professional camera equipment and extensive filmmaking experience are not required. We are looking for someone who is visually observant, curious, dependable, and comfortable working in different creative spaces.

What You Will Do

  • Attend scheduled creative classes across New York City.
  • Capture a variety of vertical and horizontal videos and photos.
  • Document the teacher, setting, materials, creative process, participants, and finished work.
  • Capture natural moments without interrupting the class or distracting learners.
  • Conduct brief interviews when requested and approved.
  • Write a short report about the class experience.
  • Upload all deliverables within three business days unless otherwise agreed.
  • Follow DoBeDoUs filming, privacy, brand, and participant-consent guidelines.
  • Communicate promptly if a scheduling, technical, filming, or access issue arises.

What to Capture

Each class visit should include a mix of:

  • The exterior, entrance, studio, or classroom
  • Teacher introductions and demonstrations
  • Hands working with tools and materials
  • Students participating
  • Wide, medium, and close-up views
  • Different stages of the creative process
  • Details, textures, supplies, and completed projects
  • Natural interactions and reactions
  • Short comments from teachers or participants when approved
  • General footage that may be useful for broader DoBeDoUs content

The goal is to capture both the specific class and the wider appeal of hands-on creative learning.

Deliverables Per Class

For a one-hour visit:

  • Approximately 20 to 35 usable video clips
  • Approximately 10 to 20 usable photos

For a two-hour visit:

  • Approximately 35 to 60 usable video clips
  • Approximately 15 to 30 usable photos

Each assignment will also include:

  • A written report of approximately 250 to 400 words
  • Brief notes about strong moments or potential content ideas
  • Occasional simple edited Reels or short videos when assigned

The report and content notes should be combined into one Google Doc.

All videos, photos, the Google Doc, and any assigned edited assets should be placed in one folder named after the class. You will not need to rename individual files, create subfolders, or organize the assets in detail.

Final quantities may vary depending on the class length, space, lighting, participant permissions, and filming conditions. Quality, variety, and usability are more important than reaching an exact number.

Written Report

The report should briefly describe:

  • The atmosphere and setting
  • The teacher’s personality and teaching approach
  • How the class was structured
  • How much guidance learners received
  • Whether the experience felt beginner-friendly
  • Memorable materials, details, or moments
  • Observations that could help DoBeDoUs market the class accurately

The writing does not need to be highly polished. It should be clear, observant, specific, and useful.

What You Will Learn

During the internship, you will have opportunities to:

  • Develop smartphone photography and video skills in live environments
  • Learn how to capture content for Instagram Reels and other marketing channels
  • Practice visual storytelling through wide, medium, and close-up shots
  • Understand how content supports brand, audience, and business goals
  • Gain experience working with artists, teachers, studios, and local businesses
  • Receive feedback on your filming, photography, writing, and content ideas
  • Develop selected portfolio pieces with prior approval

The internship may be eligible for academic credit with approval from your school.

Who We Are Looking For

The ideal intern:

  • Understands Instagram Reels and vertical social video
  • Has good visual judgment and notices compelling moments
  • Can capture steady, well-composed smartphone footage
  • Is comfortable photographing people, spaces, and creative activities
  • Works quietly and respectfully during live classes
  • Communicates clearly and meets agreed deadlines
  • Arrives on time and prepared
  • Is friendly and professional with teachers, providers, learners, and studio staff
  • Understands the purpose of each assignment and the DoBeDoUs mission
  • Respects participant comfort and privacy
  • Uses good judgment when plans or filming conditions change
  • Can solve unexpected challenges calmly and creatively
  • Is open to feedback and interested in improving
  • Can travel to class locations across New York City

Every class and studio will be different. We are looking for someone who can follow direction, assess the situation, and adapt respectfully when circumstances change.

Equipment

You must have:

  • A recent iPhone with a strong camera
  • Enough available storage for each class shoot
  • A portable charger or power bank
  • A small phone tripod, grip, or stabilizer
  • Compact portable lighting
  • Access to reliable file-transfer and cloud-storage tools

Professional cameras and large lighting setups are not required. Portable lighting should be used selectively and should not disrupt the class.

Please let us know during the application process if you need to discuss access to any required accessories.

Helpful Experience

Experience in any of the following is helpful but not required:

  • Creating Instagram or TikTok content
  • Filming events, workshops, cultural spaces, restaurants, or local businesses
  • Editing with Canva, CapCut, Adobe Premiere, or a similar tool
  • Studying photography, film, fine art, design, journalism, marketing, or communications
  • Participating in art, craft, cultural, or creative-learning communities

Undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

Mentorship and Feedback

The intern will work directly with DoBeDoUs founder Misook Ji, a creative director and product design leader with more than 20 years of industry experience.

Misook has worked with and led teams creating content marketing platforms, financial tools, digital products, and marketplaces for leading brands and organizations, including UNIQLO, Tiffany & Co., Northwestern Mutual, and PwC.

The intern will receive:

  • An introduction to the DoBeDoUs mission, audience, and content goals
  • Clear filming priorities before each class visit
  • Ongoing feedback on videos, photography, writing, and edited content
  • Guidance on visual storytelling, content strategy, and professional creative work
  • Opportunities to share ideas and develop selected portfolio pieces with approval

Working Process

  1. DoBeDoUs selects the class and confirms permission to film.
  2. You receive the class details, filming priorities, and shot list.
  3. You attend the agreed portion of the class and capture the requested content.
  4. You complete the Google Doc and any assigned edited assets.
  5. You place all deliverables in one folder named after the class.
  6. You upload the folder within three business days unless otherwise agreed.
  7. DoBeDoUs reviews the work and provides feedback.

Selected content may be used across DoBeDoUs social media, website, email, advertising, category pages, collections, and other marketing materials.

Schedule and Transportation

  • Approximately four class visits per month
  • Classes may take place on weekdays, evenings, or weekends
  • Each visit will usually require one to two hours on location
  • Additional time will be needed for the report, file upload, and occasional editing
  • Assignments will be scheduled in advance whenever possible
  • Most months are expected to total no more than 10 hours
  • Any additional hours must be approved in writing before the work begins

DoBeDoUs will reimburse reasonable NYC subway and bus fares required for assigned class visits. Trip details or receipts may be requested.

Content Rights and Confidentiality

Content created during the paid internship, including raw footage, photographs, written reports, interviews, and edited materials, will be owned by DoBeDoUs under the written internship agreement.

The intern must:

  • Follow filming and participant-consent requirements.
  • Avoid publishing class content independently unless approved.
  • Protect private or sensitive information learned during an assignment.
  • Use only music, graphics, fonts, and other materials approved for use.
  • Receive approval before including commissioned work in a public portfolio.

Whenever possible, DoBeDoUs will help the intern identify selected work that may be appropriate for an approved portfolio presentation.

Benefits and Perks

In addition to hourly pay, DoBeDoUs will reimburse public transportation expenses required for assigned class visits.

Interns who consistently deliver strong work and continue working with DoBeDoUs may also occasionally be invited to attend selected creative classes for free or at a discounted rate.

Class opportunities depend on availability, provider approval, and business needs and are not guaranteed every month.

How to Apply

Please send:

  • A short introduction explaining your interest
  • A link to your portfolio, Instagram, TikTok, website, or relevant work
  • The model of iPhone you currently use
  • Your general weekday, evening, and weekend availability
  • Your school, program, and expected graduation year
