Community Engagement Coordinator

DownCity Design (DCD) is a non-profit community design organization that empowers people to strengthen their communities, using the tools of design. Our free design learning programs train Providence County youth and adults to become skilled changemakers and engaged community members by inviting them to design and create service projects for public spaces and community groups, while learning valuable academic and career skills. The Community Engagement Coordinator works closely with the Executive Director to support and advance fundraising efforts and community outreach for DownCity Design. The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for creation of visually appealing outreach materials and social media posts; donor database management; tracking, reporting and acknowledging gifts; preparing fund development reports; fundraising event coordination; and assisting with grant writing and reporting.

Location: DownCity Design (370 Cranston  Street, Providence)

Hours:  Full-time, 40 hours per week

Specific responsibilities include:

Relationship Cultivation & Communication: 

  • Support the Executive Director’s efforts to maintain and expand relationships with corporate sponsors and funders; foundations and individual donors
  • Develop strategies to ensure proper acknowledgement, recognition, and stewardship of donors
  • Prepare donor acknowledgement letters
  • Identification and research of potential individual or corporate donors
  • Create and coordinate compelling monthly e-newsletter for a variety of audiences
  • Collaboratively create social media campaigns related to fund development, to build local and national awareness of our work.

Visual Communication:

  • Design of recruitment materials for DCD programs (postcards, flyers)
  • Frequent social media posts to increase program visibility 
  • Design of print and digital communications materials related to fund development, such as campaign brochures, event invitations, and flyers
  • Develop supplementary grant materials that visually communicate data, testimonials, etc
  • Ensure consistent branding across all public facing communications
  • Adapt the template design and draft copy for our Annual Report
  • Use basic web design skills to update our website and develop supplemental pages on Squarespace as needed to keep information current


 

Fundraising & Grant Writing:

  • Work with the Executive Director to plan, manage and implement the DownCity Design Annual Campaign. Campaign management includes:
    • Coordinating direct mail, e-mail, and social media campaigns
    • Designing campaign materials such as webpages, brochures, and slide decks
  • Work with the Executive Director to plan, manage and implement fundraising events including the DownCity Design Community Builder event, 401 Gives campaign, and project unveilings. Event management includes:
    • Soliciting in-kind donations
    • Managing  volunteers and event logistics
    • Creating a positive attendee experience 
    • Documenting DCD program events
  • Assist with grant research, proposals and reports 
  • Synthesize program data and conduct research to support grant writing efforts
  • Develop and maintain a calendar of grant opportunities to support programs and operations


 

Database Management: 

  • Keep Bloomerang donor database up to date by entering gifts, updating donor information, and monitoring online donations 
  • Run reports, synthesize information, and share regular updates about current and prospective donors, especially following fundraising events
  • Train and assist Board Members with Bloomerang usage
  • Ensure overall data integrity within donor database 


 

The Community Engagement Coordinator qualifications and experience include:

DownCity Design seeks a creative individual who can think strategically to implement long-term systems for fund development. 

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Solid experience with graphic design, including fluency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)
  • Strong relationship building skills and the ability to provide an excellent donor experience 
  • Organization, professionalism and attention to detail and accuracy
  • Openness to creative collaboration and working as a team 
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously
  • Ability to plan for long-term projects and design strategies for implementation 
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms; experience with MailChimp and Squarespace is a plus
  • Understanding of database management, gift processing and donor relations; experience with Bloomerang or other CRM system is a plus
  • Excellent writing and research skills 
  • Excitement about project-based learning and social practice
  • Familiarity with and/or excitement about supporting positive change for Providence communities

Scope:

This is a full-time, open-ended position. The Community Engagement Coordinator reports directly to the DCD Executive Director. The Community Engagement Coordinator will be expected to work an average of 40 hours per week throughout the year, with occasional evening and weekend hours. Performance will be reviewed annually. This position will commence in mid-August / early Sept 2026.


 

Benefits of the Position:

Compensation: $46,000-$50,000 annually, commensurate with experience

Health & Dental Insurance:  DownCity Design offers a menu of health insurance plan options, and pays 50% of a “gold” level health and dental insurance premium. Spouse and dependent benefits are available, paid in full by the employee.

Retirement Plan: DownCity Design matches contributions to a SIMPLE IRA retirement plan, up to 3% of employee’s salary annually.

Paid Time Off: 10 flexible vacation days annually, plus full weeks of paid time off during studio closures in December and August. DCD also offers 15 paid staff holidays, including your birthday!

Paid Sick / Personal Leave:  10 days / year (in addition to paid vacation described above)
