About the National Violence Prevention Hotline

The National Violence Prevention Hotline (NVPH) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and preventing violence through free, confidential, and compassionate support. We provide crisis intervention, emotional support, safety planning, and resource navigation for individuals affected by violence, while advancing public awareness, education, and prevention initiatives that strengthen communities nationwide.

Position Overview

NVPH is seeking an analytical and mission-driven Public Policy & Government Affairs Intern to support research on public policy, legislation, and government initiatives related to violence prevention and public health. This role will assist with monitoring legislative developments, conducting policy research, and preparing materials that inform organizational initiatives and educational efforts.

The intern will gain hands-on experience in policy analysis, government affairs, and nonprofit research while contributing to initiatives that support violence prevention and crisis intervention.

This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in Political Science, Public Policy, Public Health, Criminal Justice, International Relations, or related fields.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor federal and state legislation related to violence prevention and public health
• Conduct policy and legislative research on emerging issues
• Prepare policy briefs, research summaries, and educational materials
• Research government programs, agencies, and policy initiatives
• Assist with tracking legislative developments and policy trends
• Support organizational research and advocacy initiatives
• Collaborate with team members on evidence-informed projects and reports

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in Political Science, Public Policy, Public Health, Criminal Justice, International Relations, or related fields
• Strong research, analytical, and writing skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
• Comfortable reviewing and synthesizing complex information
• Interest in public policy, government affairs, violence prevention, or nonprofit work
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment
   

Work Location: Remote (United States)

Time Commitment: Approximately 10–15 hours per week

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship. Academic credit may be available through your college or university.
