About the Role 

EMI Advisors is seeking a motivated Cybersecurity Engineering Intern currently pursuing a Master's degree to support cybersecurity engineering, cloud security, and compliance initiatives for government and commercial clients. Working alongside software developers, cloud architects, and compliance specialists, you will contribute to implementing security controls, supporting cloud security and compliance efforts, and developing automation solutions that improve cybersecurity processes. 

This internship provides hands-on experience with cloud security, federal cybersecurity standards, compliance engineering, security automation, and secure software development while supporting real-world government technology initiatives. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Assist with implementing, documenting, and validating cybersecurity controls aligned with federal cybersecurity and cloud security best practices.  
• Support security compliance initiatives, including the development and maintenance of security documentation, policies, procedures, and supporting artifacts.  
• Assist in developing and maintaining compliance documentation and structured security artifacts, including OSCAL-based documentation that supports automated compliance and authorization workflows. 
• Support compliance assessments, security reviews, authorization readiness activities, evidence collection, and remediation tracking. 
• Collaborate with software developers and cloud engineers to integrate security and compliance requirements throughout the software development lifecycle.  
• Identify opportunities to automate compliance documentation, evidence collection, and security workflows using Python, APIs, AI, or low-code tools.  
• Support the implementation of cloud security controls across AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform. 
• Assist with vulnerability assessments, security testing, and remediation activities.  
• Continuously learn and apply emerging cybersecurity technologies, compliance standards, and automation techniques to support client engagements. 
• Develop technical documentation, implementation guides, compliance reports, and process documentation.  
• Participate in Agile project activities and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.  
• Support DevSecOps initiatives by integrating security and compliance practices into the software development lifecycle. 

 Job Requirements 

Required Qualifications 

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Assurance, Information Security, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.  
• 0–2 years of experience through internships, research, assistantships, academic projects, cybersecurity competitions, or technical coursework.  
• Understanding of cybersecurity principles, cloud security, and secure software development.  
• Familiarity with cybersecurity and compliance frameworks such as NIST SP 800-53, NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF), FedRAMP, CMMC, CIS Controls, ISO/IEC 27001, or similar standards through coursework, research, or projects. 
• Experience with one or more scripting or programming languages such as Python, PowerShell, Bash, or JavaScript.  
• Strong analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills.  
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.  
• U.S. Citizenship. 

 Preferred Qualifications 

• Coursework, research, or project experience in cloud security, cybersecurity compliance, governance, risk management, or secure software development.  
• Familiarity with security documentation, compliance assessments, or audit preparation.  
• Interest in federal cybersecurity, cloud compliance, or compliance automation. 
• Exposure to OSCAL, security automation, or structured security documentation is a plus. 
• Familiarity with one or more cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.  
• Experience using Python or scripting languages to automate technical or business processes.  
• Interest in cybersecurity engineering, compliance automation, DevSecOps, cloud security, or federal technology consulting.  
• Security certifications or coursework such as CompTIA Security+, ISC² Certified in Cybersecurity (CC), AWS Cloud Practitioner, or Microsoft Azure Fundamentals are a plus.
