Certified Peer Mentor

Personalized Nursing LIGHT House (PNLH) is seeking a Certified Peer Recovery Mentor to provide non-clinical, recovery-focused peer support to adults receiving substance use disorder and behavioral health services. This position works under the supervision of the Site Director and supports client engagement, stability, recovery planning, and connection to community resources.

PNLH has provided specialized addiction treatment and recovery services in Southeast Michigan for more than 30 years. Our programs integrate substance use disorder treatment, mental health services, and primary care coordination into client-centered care guided by dignity, compassion, accountability, and recovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide peer recovery support within the scope of training, certification, and PNLH policy.
  • Use lived experience appropriately while maintaining clear professional and ethical boundaries.
  • Support clients with recovery planning tools, including My Plans.
  • Assist with admissions, discharges, and transitions between levels of care.
  • Encourage relapse-prevention efforts and provide outreach following relapse to support re-engagement.
  • Help clients access transportation, housing, food, clothing, recovery meetings, and community resources.
  • Conduct apartment or housing-monitor checks as assigned.
  • Maintain supportive contact with alumni, including recovery milestone outreach.
  • Complete required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Participate in supervision, team meetings, and required training.
  • Transport clients using a company-provided vehicle, as assigned.
  • Demonstrate a compassionate, trauma-informed, and client-centered approach in all interactions.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • CCAR Peer Recovery Coach training or certification.
  • Ability to obtain the MCBAP Peer Recovery Mentor Certification Development Plan through the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals within 30 days of hire.
  • Minimum of two years in recovery, as required for peer certification.
  • Valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets organizational requirements.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including email, electronic documentation systems, and communication platforms.
  • Ability to work professionally with individuals experiencing substance use, mental health, and behavioral challenges.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience providing peer support in a substance use disorder treatment setting.
  • Training or experience in trauma-informed peer support.
  • Experience in residential, transitional housing, or outpatient programs.
  • Familiarity with recovery and community resources in Southeast Michigan.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Word, and Teams.
  • Strong communication, documentation, relationship-building, and boundary-setting skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Reliability, professionalism, emotional regulation, and adaptability.
