Business Development Trainee – Federal Contracts Team

Arch Street Communications, Inc. (ASC) is a strategic communications and public engagement firm based in New York. Since 1992, ASC has served state, regional, and federal agencies as well as private sector organizations. We help clients communicate on issues affecting Americans, including transportation, housing, energy, environment, and public safety.  

 

Internship Overview  

Internships at ASC allow interested students to obtain practical experience in strategic thinking and implementation, and business development. This includes researching Federal bid opportunities and prime consultant partnerships, conducting Federal agency research, developing pitch decks and networking materials, database development, identifying networking events, and contributing to overall Federal strategic marketing and communication ideas for proposals and awarded projects. Interns will help with communications, administrative, and outreach tasks assigned by ASC staff who work to include interns in business development and strategy discussions whenever feasible and appropriate. Interns participate in internal and external meetings for project planning, team brainstorming and collaborations, and outreach for our transportation, energy, and housing verticals, among others. Interns report to their assigned Director for assignments and feedback and will also collaborate with other team members. The Business Development intern will be hybrid until further notice and selected interns are provided a program stipend of $17 per hour.

Typical Responsibilities  

  • Conduct industry research related to Federal agencies, their respective procurement schedules, and related bid-release tasks  
  • Support identification of teaming partners in several verticals, including transportation, energy, housing, economic development, and other sectors
  • Support development of Federal proposal documents 
  • Research and develop Federal agency and partner POC databases of names, titles, and contact information
  • Create pitch decks for virtual or in-person teaming or client meetings
  • Support identification of networking and speaking opportunities for ASC
  • Maintain internal business development and proposal documents within ASC’s filing system  
  • Provide administrative support during meetings, including preparing agendas and notes  

Minimum Qualifications  

  • Currently enrolled in or graduated within the last 12 months from a college or university in New York State, OR a New York State resident enrolled in or graduated within the last 12 months from an out-of-state institution (proof of NYS residency required)
  • Must reside in the New York Metropolitan area and be able to travel to ASC's Midtown Manhattan office up to three times per week
  • Available Monday through Friday, 9:00 am–5:00 pm, starting September 8, 2026 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; proactive and collaborative work style  
  • Demonstrated interest in any of the following: transportation, energy, workforce development, housing, environmental science, event planning, media advertising, or the climate sector  
  • Familiarity with current events in environment, civic planning, transportation, energy, and policy 
  • Proficiency with remote work tools, as ASC operates on a hybrid work schedule
