Near-Peer Community Engagement Intern

VOX ATL Near-Peer Community Engagement  Intern
 

VOX ATL welcomes applicants to apply to serve as a community engagement near-peer intern to represent VOX ATL in the community while creating opportunities for VOXers to connect within the space. Interns will have the opportunity to capture media at community events, support the planning and promotion of VOX ATL’s Teen Survey, and continue to develop their professional leadership skills. This is a perfect opportunity for anyone interested in community outreach, communications, marketing, event planning and coordination, and improving their facilitation and public speaking skills. This role is also great for those who enjoy working collaboratively in an intergenerational environment, modeling youth-adult power-sharing while advancing teen leadership in the community.

Responsibilities: 

  • Support the planning and promotion of VOX ATL’s Teen Survey 
  • Promote & Engage with Mighty Networks
  • Help create and facilitate outreach workshops and events 
  • Attend training/prep sessions
  • Assist with training for additional outreach facilitators. 
  • Capture video, podcast, and photo content during outreach events
  • Edit video and photo content as needed (training can be provided) 
  • Contribute to creating an engaging student experience for VOXers and potential VOXers
  • Create and maintain a VOXy safe and welcoming environment that upholds VOX ATL values and helps participants to feel free to use their voice.
  • Support the program evaluation (collecting and using feedback from sessions for ongoing improvement) 
  • Submit confidentiality and payment request forms, and IRS-related paperwork as needed; track your hours (VOX ATL will show you how to do this.) 


 

Schedule & Compensation:

  • This is a semester-long internship (August-December) and will end on the final day of programming. This position averages 10 hours per week.
  • The Near-Peer Outreach Intern must be able to attend planning meetings ahead of tabling/outreach events, and occasional Saturday community events at VOX ATL, as well as out in the community. Additional scheduling will be coordinated with the Outreach Coordinator. 
  • Key Dates Include:
    • VOX ATL Internship Logistics Call - Thursday, August 6, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. via Zoom.
    • Intern Training (Understanding your role, ambassadorship, media skills, peer editing, and mentorship) - Tuesday, August 11 to Thursday, August 14, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the VOX ATL Office.
    • Weekly Intern Meetings - Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (In-person)
    • Skills Sessions - Held two Wednesdays per month from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Alternating between virtual and in-person sessions)
    • VOX ATL Open House - Sat. Aug. 15 
    • Winter Showcase - Sat. Dec 12 
    • Intern Close Out - Tue. Dec. 15
    • Additional dates for community events and outreach activities TBD
  • This position will require in-person leadership, so the intern should be able to work from the VOX ATL office. 
  • You will track your time using VOX’s time-tracking process. Compensation is $12/hour for near-peers, up to 10 hours per week.
  • MARTA Breeze tickets or parking validation will be provided at the VOX ATL office. 

Prospective Majors: 

Political Science, Marketing, Communications, Organizational Leadership, Business, Public Relations, etc. 
 

Qualifications:

Applicants must be between 18 and 23 years old and hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants must be willing to support positive youth development and principles of power-sharing with teens they support at VOX ATL.
