Special Projects Near-Peer Internship

Role Overview

The Special Projects Intern supports three of VOX ATL's high-priority initiatives: the Free Your Feels Mental Health Campaign, the VOX Online Platform (powered by Mighty Networks), and the administration of the 2026 VOX Teen Survey. This is a hands-on role for someone who is organized, community-minded, and passionate about youth voice and digital engagement.

 

Schedule and Compensation
 

  • Location: Hybrid, primarily virtual + in person - as needed 
  • Schedule: At least 10 hours per week
  • Salary: $12 per hour 
     

Responsibilities will include:

Free Your Feels Mental Health Campaign 

  • Support the execution of VOX ATL's spring editorial mental health campaign, including content coordination and promotional support
  • Assist with scheduling and organizing campaign-related teen programming, events, and community conversations
  • Track campaign milestones and help compile content and impact documentation for reporting
     

Community Management 

  • Serve as a day-to-day community manager for VOX ATL's online platform, welcoming new members and keeping engagement active
  • Post content, facilitate discussions, and amplify teen-created work across the platform
  • Monitor platform activity and surface insights on member engagement to VOX ATL staff
  • Support onboarding of new teen members and help maintain a safe, affirming online space


2026 VOX Teen Survey

  • Support administration of the 2026 VOX Teen Survey, including outreach coordination and data collection logistics
  • Help develop accessible, teen-facing materials that translate data into compelling narratives

Event Support

  • Work alongside other VOX ATL interns for community-wide events, like the Winter Showcase.
  • Assist with social media and content creation when needed 
     

Qualifications / Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program in communications, journalism, public health, social work, nonprofit management, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of youth culture, trends, and web best practices, comfort with digital platforms and social media; experience with community management or online engagement a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in social media analytics tools
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment
  • Applicants must have a genuine interest in youth media, mental health advocacy, and data storytelling and be willing to support positive youth development and principles of power-sharing.

Schedule & Compensation:

  • VOX ATL Internship Logistics Call - Thursday, August 6, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. via Zoom.
  • Intern Training (Understanding your role, ambassadorship, media skills, peer editing, and mentorship) - Tuesday, August 11 to Thursday, August 14, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the VOX ATL Office.
  • VOX ATL Open House - Sat. Aug. 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 
  • Weekly Intern Meetings - Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. starting on August 18 (In-person).
  • Leadership Accelerator Meetings - Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. starting on Saturday, October 10. (The Accelerator is a six-week program. Interns will arrive at 1 p.m)
  • Winter Showcase - Sat. Dec 12 
  • Intern Close Out - Tue. Dec. 15 
  • Additional scheduling will be coordinated with the publishing & program team.
  • This position will require in-person leadership, so the intern should be able to work from the VOX ATL office. 
  • You will track your time using VOX’s time-tracking process. Compensation is $12/hour for near-peers, up to 10 hours per week unless stated otherwise.
  • MARTA Breeze tickets or parking validation will be provided at the VOX ATL office.
