The Developmental Support Services Foundation (DSSF) is a nonprofit public benefit corporation (501c3) dedicated to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. Established in 1994, we provide financial assistance, educational resources, and staff training to empower the 18,000+ individuals served by the Kern Regional Center and other community organizations. Through the DSSF Giving Fund, we work to create opportunities and provide essential support where it's needed most.
Internship Overview – A Hands-On Learning Experience
Are you passionate about nonprofit work, partnership development, and making a social impact? This internship provides real-world experience in grant writing, community outreach, and stakeholder engagement. As a Partnership Development Intern, you will play a key role in building strategic relationships, securing funding, and connecting resources that benefit individuals with developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities
- Research and identify potential grants, and funding opportunities for DSSF and the Kern Regional Center – to support the mission of each organization
- Play a vital role in securing funding through grant applications
- Support outreach efforts to build relationships with community organizations serving the developmentally disabled
- Assist in creating partnership proposals, presentations, and reports, as directed
- Track and evaluate program/grant success through data collection and analysis
- Research and compile resources for the special needs community
Who We’re Looking For
- Current college student pursuing a degree in nonprofit management, business, social work, psychology, or a related field
- Passion for serving individuals with developmental disabilities
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and online research tools
- Team player with a self-starter attitude
Compensation & Schedule
- $20 per hour
- 20 hours per week
- Three-month internship
- Schedule determined based on academic requirements and supervisor approval
