Location: in and around Fairfax, VA
Temporary employment: from approximately August 17 through November 3, 2026
Part-time: $25/hour, maximum 20 hours/week

What is Hamkae Center?
Hamkae Center organizes Asian Americans in Virginia to achieve social, economic, and racial justice. Through community organizing, public policy advocacy, civic engagement, youth leadership development, service provision, and community education, Hamkae Center works to build a future in which low- and middle-income, immigrant, people of color, and marginalized communities can fully participate in U.S. society and work together as makers of lasting change.
Position Description
Hamkae Center is hiring part-time canvassers to educate the electorate about the November 2026 General Election. This position will report to the Hamkae Center’s community organizers. This is a unique opportunity to empower, mobilize, and share important voting resources with Asian voters in Virginia through door-to-door conversations. Participating in democracy is important, and every voter’s voice deserves to be heard.
Ideal candidates will be organized, detail-oriented, and independent team players who have good listening skills and who thrive on connecting with others.
Responsibilities:
- Effectively inform community members about important voting information and deadlines through door-knocking
- Use technology to ensure accurate and timely data entry
- Complete daily and weekly reports on canvassing experiences
- Represent Hamkae Center with professional and ethical conduct
- Successfully complete required training
- Other duties as assigned, as related to the success of the civic engagement campaign
Key Competencies and Qualifications:
Prior work experience: 0-2 years or relevant canvassing experience (internships and volunteer work applies)
Technical Skills & Resource Management:
Performing well-defined tasks completely by following directives, maintaining organization and commitments, communicating effectively, meeting deadlines, and proactively taking charge of own role responsibilities with oversight
Experience using a computer and smartphone and learning how to use different apps and platforms for voter contact (e.g. MiniVAN)
Available for working on weekends and some evenings
Possessing a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Task Management & Problem solving:
Capable of working independently with few errors while proposing solutions when errors do occur and addressing problems as they arise, notifying their supervisor when needed.
Adaptability & Resilience:
Taking advantage of unexpected opportunities, new conditions, and addressing challenges with the ability to navigate change.
Self-awareness & Conflict resolution:
Capable of identifying one’s own strengths and challenges and engaging in healthy conflict.
Communication skills:
Displaying ability to express ideas and information in a straightforward and understandable manner with minimal need for clarification.
Trust, Empathy, & Integrity:
Demonstrating strong moral and ethical standards, maintaining alignment with Hamkae Center’s core values and adhering to organizational guidelines around privacy, trust, and ethical conduct.
Leadership & Teamwork:
Capable of providing and accepting positive and constructive feedback with all team members as well as supervisors.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
- Bilingual in English and an Asian language.
- Previous canvass experience is helpful but not required, as training and coaching will be provided to all canvassers.
