These seasonal internships are designed to develop the essential skills, assets, and training needed to expand students' entrepreneurial knowledge and better prepare them to enter the workforce. Through these practical experiences, students will learn about entrepreneurship, develop highly coveted skills employers seek in new college graduates, and gain real-world experience all while earning a livable wage of $20/hr. Communication & Marketing Project Management Intern
Position Summary
The Marketing & Events Intern will support the marketing, communications, and event initiatives of 1881 Ventures, an organization dedicated to growing the entrepreneurial ecosystem by supporting founders, investors, and innovation-driven programs. This internship provides hands-on experience in startup marketing, event management, digital communications, and entrepreneurial storytelling through meaningful, real-world projects that directly contribute to organizational growth.
Essential Job Functions
- Develop and manage a comprehensive social media content calendar to plan, schedule, and evaluate marketing campaigns.
- Create engaging digital content, including graphics, photography, short-form videos, and promotional materials for social media, websites, and email communications.
- Update and maintain website content to ensure timely and accurate information for entrepreneurs, partners, and the public.
- Design and manage online registration forms for workshops, networking events, accelerator programs, and pitch competitions.
- Assist with planning, coordinating, and executing entrepreneurial events, including participant communications, logistics, registration management, and day-of support.
- Capture photo and video content during events and produce recap videos highlighting program impact.
- Monitor engagement and marketing performance metrics and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with staff, founders, community partners, and stakeholders to promote innovation-focused programming.
Learning Outcomes & Unique Internship Experience
During the internship, the student will develop knowledge and practical experience in:
- Entrepreneurial Marketing Strategy: Learn how marketing supports startup growth, founder storytelling, and ecosystem development by creating campaigns that engage entrepreneurs, investors, and community partners.
- Innovation Event Management: Gain experience planning and executing innovation-focused events, pitch competitions, networking opportunities, and educational programs that foster entrepreneurship.
- Digital Content Production & Brand Management: Build professional skills in content creation, video production, social media strategy, website management, and data-informed marketing decisions.
Entrepreneurship & Innovation Integration
Innovation and entrepreneurship are central to this internship. The intern will work directly with startup founders, entrepreneurial support organizations, investors, and community partners to communicate the impact of innovation programs. Through marketing campaigns, event coordination, and digital storytelling, the intern will help increase awareness of entrepreneurial resources while gaining firsthand exposure to the startup ecosystem and the role marketing plays in venture growth and community innovation.
Qualifications
- Current undergraduate or graduate student in Marketing, Communications, Business, Digital Media, Journalism, Graphic Design, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, or similar design and video editing tools preferred.
- Familiarity with social media platforms including LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
- Experience with website content management systems (Clickflow or similar) is preferred but not required.
- Highly organized, creative, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Interest in entrepreneurship, startups, innovation, or community economic development.
Final Internship Deliverable
At the conclusion of the internship, the student will deliver a professional portfolio and presentation that demonstrates the impact
of their work. The final deliverable will include:
- A completed social media content calendar and campaign summary.
- Samples of original marketing materials, graphics, videos, and website updates created during the internship.
- A summary of event marketing and coordination activities, including lessons learned.
- A reflective presentation outlining key accomplishments, measurable outcomes (such as engagement metrics or event
participation), and recommendations for future marketing initiatives at 1881 Ventures.
This internship is designed to provide students with practical, resume-building experience while contributing meaningful work
that advances entrepreneurship and innovation in the Borderplex region.
