About the Opportunity
The Build A World™ Creative Incubator is seeking highly skilled sewing and upcycling interns to join our fashion team immediately.
This is an exciting opportunity for students with advanced sewing experience to help create an original fashion collection that will be showcased at the Brooklyn Museum. Interns will work inside both our professional Wall Street creative office and our Harlem fashion house, collaborating with designers and creative professionals in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
Beyond fashion production, interns will have the opportunity to be part of the storytelling behind the collection. Our creative process is being documented through an original documentary and digital series, offering students a behind-the-scenes look at how fashion, media, and storytelling intersect.

Responsibilities
- Assist designers in constructing original garments.
- Sew garments using advanced sewing techniques.
- Support the creation of upcycled fashion pieces.
- Complete alterations, finishing work, and garment preparation.
- Assist with fittings and production deadlines.
- Help prepare garments for photoshoots, filming, and the final museum showcase.
- Collaborate with designers, photographers, filmmakers, and other creative interns.
- Participate in documenting the creative process for our documentary and digital series.
Qualifications
We are looking for applicants who have:
- Advanced sewing and garment construction skills.
- Experience creating finished garments from patterns.
- Experience with alterations and garment finishing.
- Knowledge of upcycling or sustainable fashion is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Professionalism and reliability.
Please note: This is not a beginner sewing internship. Applicants should already possess strong technical sewing skills.
Portfolio Required
A sewing portfolio is required for consideration.
Applicants must submit photographs or examples of garments and fashion projects they have personally sewn or constructed.
Applications submitted without a portfolio will not be reviewed.

About the Build A World™ Creative Incubator
Founded by award-nominated Casting Director, Producer, Author, and Creative Strategist Asjai Lou, the Build A World™ Creative Incubator provides students with hands-on experience working on real creative projects while developing professional skills, expanding their portfolios, and building meaningful industry relationships.
Students collaborate across multiple creative disciplines—including fashion, film, photography, branding, social media, and storytelling—to experience how professional creative teams bring ideas from concept to completion.
Compensation
This is an unpaid educational internship designed to provide supervised experiential learning, professional mentorship, and portfolio development. Academic credit is welcomed where permitted by the student's college or university.
Educational Internship Compliance
This internship is structured primarily for the educational benefit of participating students and is intended to complement their academic studies and professional development. Interns receive mentorship, supervision, meaningful training, portfolio-building opportunities, and practical experience in a professional creative environment.
The internship is intended to comply with applicable federal and New York State guidelines governing unpaid internships, including the educational criteria established under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and applicable New York State Department of Labor guidance. Participation in this internship does not guarantee future employment with the organization.
