Communications Intern
JOB SUMMARY:
The communications intern will work directly with the City of Arlington Water Utilities Communication Coordinator, supporting enhancement of resident engagement through external communication and internal communications to promote department goals. The intern will participate in implementing the department’s social media strategy and efforts to expand water department conservation and education activities.
This intern will participate in a variety of activities including the following:
Event planning, including collaboration with other city departments and Arlington nonprofits
Writing informational, entertaining stories about water utilities activities and topics
Social media planning and implementation
Research and preparation of internal reports
Updating of internal and external websites
Design and completion of informational pieces for utility customers
Coordinating media coverage of Water Utilities activities
Filling open records requests
Photography
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Excellent communications skills (written and verbal)
Proficient in Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Skill in communicating through social media websites Facebook and Twitter
Time management skills
Comfort with learning new content management systems
Interest in communications/marketing/public relations fields
Enrolled as a full-time student in an undergraduate college program
Individual must be able to schedule 15 to 20 hours a week with the flexibility to work some weekends. Must have valid driver’s license.
