Ecommerce Developer
Looking for a college grad. student who has extensive experience in ecommerce website development and design, specifically as follows:
- Technical Knowledge & Platform Expertise
Core Development (The Frontend Stack)
- HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript: The absolute baseline. You need to know how to structure a page, style it cleanly, and handle dynamic components (like interactive shopping carts or product image sliders).
- Modern Frameworks: High familiarity with popular JavaScript libraries like React, Vue.js, or Next.js. E-commerce sites favor these frameworks because they allow for fast, smooth transitions that keep customers from leaving the site.
E-Commerce Platforms (The Specialized Tech)
- SaaS Platforms: Shopify (especially liquid templating) and BigCommerce.
- Open-Source & Headless CMS: WordPress/WooCommerce, Magento (Adobe Commerce), or headless e-commerce setups (where the frontend is decoupled from the backend database via APIs)
2. E-Commerce Specific Requirements
Responsive UI/UX DesignMobile-First Mentality: Over 60% of global e-commerce traffic happens on mobile devices. You must prove you can design fluid user interfaces that make checking out on a phone seamless.
Payment Gateway Integration: Understanding how to securely connect APIs for Stripe, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Klarna.
Web Performance & Speed: A 1-second delay can drop conversions by 7%. Knowledge of image optimization, lazy loading, and minification (shrinking code files to load faster).
SEO & Analytics Fundamentals: Web design for retail requires a basic understanding of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) structure and tracking tools like Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to monitor user behavior.
Security & Compliance: Knowing the basics of SSL certificates, data encryption, and PCI-DSS compliance (the universal security standard for accepting credit cards online).
It would be good if you could provide a link to a GitHub profile or personal portfolio site containing:
A Functional Mock Storefront: A capstone or personal project showcasing a fully functional, simulated e-commerce site complete with a working shopping cart, product filtering/sorting, and a mockup checkout flow.
Clean, Version-Controlled Code: Demonstrating proficiency with Git and platforms like GitHub or GitLab.
Figma / Adobe XD Blueprints: Showing the design phase—wireframes and user flows that prove you think about the user's shopping journey before jumping into the code editor.
Having knowledge and experience with the following is essential:
Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) Mindset: Showing that you design websites with the ultimate goal of turning browsers into buyers. Mentioning an understanding of A/B testing (comparing two versions of a webpage to see which performs better).
