Web Design and Development Intern

Position: Web Design and Development Internship
Status: Part-time internship
Location: St. Paul, MN, Hybrid

Organization: Wallin Education Partners is a proven college-completion program that provides financial aid and comprehensive support to students from low-income backgrounds. Wallin’s model of financial aid and comprehensive individual advising accelerates economic mobility and fundamentally increases the odds of graduation and employment for underrepresented students. Since 1992, Wallin Education Partners has helped increase access to college and degree completion for lower-income students by partnering with high schools, donors, community organizations, and civic leaders to support more than 6,000 students on their college journeys.

Position Summary: Wallin is looking for a detail-oriented and collaborative individual who is passionate about creating accessible, user-friendly, and mission-centered digital experiences. The Web Design and Development Intern leverages a strong understanding of web design, content organization, and digital usability to support the modernization of Wallin’s website and strengthen the organization’s online presence. This role requires attention to detail, creativity, problem-solving, and the ability to work collaboratively with non-technical staff. By supporting website updates, content publishing, accessibility, SEO, and brand-aligned digital systems, the intern will contribute to Wallin’s broader efforts to improve access to information, build awareness, and support college and career success.

Primary Responsibilities

Website Content and CMS Support

  • Assist with website updates, including text, images, links, buttons, forms, and page layouts. 
  • Support the creation, editing, previewing, and publishing of news, announcements, stories, and other post-based content. 
  • Help organize website content within the CMS so staff can manage updates more efficiently. 
  • Support homepage and sitewide content areas that highlight new, featured, or priority information. 

User Experience and Information Architecture

  • Assist with organizing website content and navigation around audiences search for and use information. 
  • Help create clear pathways to priority actions such as Apply, Give, Learn, Subscribe, and Get Involved. 
  • Review desktop and mobile pages to identify usability issues and improve the user experience. 
  • Collaborate with the communications team to make website content easier to read, navigate, and maintain. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • A strong interest in web design, web development, user experience, digital content, and mission-driven communications. 
  • Experience or relevant coursework in web design, web development, UX/UI, digital media, marketing, communications, computer science, information technology, or related field. 
  • Familiarity with content management systems such as Weebly, WordPress, Webflow, Squarespace, Wix, or similar platforms. 
  • Ability to review website content for clarity, accuracy, formatting, links, images, and overall usability. 
  • Basic understanding of how audiences use websites to find information and complete important actions. 
  • Interest in learning about SEO, accessibility, analytics, and web content best practices. 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to organize information clearly. 
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with non-technical staff.

Salary & Expectations: 

  • This internship is designed for the summer and fall semester, offering flexibility in scheduling to accommodate your college or work commitments. 
  • Hours: 15-20 hours per week (flexible, remote)
  •  Compensation: $16.37/hour
  • Start/End Dates: Upon hire – October 30, 2026
  • Flexibility: Hours, start date, and schedule will be determined during the offer process.
