Restaurant Manager Intern

Restaurant management internship

Target audience: Career-minded college students or graduating high school students who are looking to begin a career in restaurant management or develop their management skillset through real-world restaurant experience and mentoring from working professionals.

Duration: 3mo-1yr, dependent on goals and availability

Schedule: PT/FT, days, nights, weekends

Purpose: Through collaboration with experienced restaurant leaders, working on the floor and ‘in the trenches’, learn the basics of how the quick-serve restaurant model functions, and what it takes to successfully manage the team, and operations, for business success. 

Role description: Work closely with the Chick-fil-A team and leadership to learn FOH operations and BOH fundamentals, support overall operational excellence, and learn the fundamentals of business and restaurant-specific leadership skills. Activities would include the following:

  • Learn Chick-fil-A’s model of hospitality and guest experience, including the Winning Hearts Every Day strategy, Core 4, Second Mile Service, and the HEARD model of guest recovery
  • Learn FOH operations including dining room service, register, DT order-taking, beverages, desserts, DT window, and bagging.
  • Learn all supporting tasks such as making tea/lemonade/iced coffee base, stocking, cleaning, and station readiness
  • Learn Chick-fil-A and Wisconsin Food Code food safety guidelines; time and temperature control, cleaning and sanitization, personal hygiene, food labeling and storage, and take part in food safety inspections
  • Learn BOH tasks such as fries, buns and pickles, and cookies/brownies
  • Work closely with shift leaders to learn how to manage restaurant flow, sales channels, and team and guest movement for optimal efficiency while maintaining the best guest experience possible
  • Learn cash management theory and systems including counting/managing the change fund, register drawers, shift settlements, and EOD procedures
  • Learn Chick-fil-A’s training model and path of development for team members into trainers, shift leaders, and beyond

Takeaways: Acquire the skills and necessary knowledge that are foundational to any successful restaurant, while achieving a better understanding of what it takes to manage a restaurant team and its operations. Accomplish at least 1 personal and professional goal per quarter.
