ABOUT THE ROLE
You won't just run practices — you'll shape a program. As Assistant Director of Gymnastics, you'll define the vision for our competitive gymnastics team, mentor athletes from pre-comp through optionals, and lead a coaching staff that looks to you for guidance. WHAT YOU'LL DO
Program & Athlete Development
- Lead the competitive team in alignment with USAG standards (Levels 6–10)
- Oversee pre-competitive classes to support long-term athlete growth
- Design and implement season-long training plans, routines, and meet preparation
- Monitor athlete progress and maintain regular, professional communication with families
Staff Leadership
- Recruit, train, mentor, and supervise assistant coaches
- Provide ongoing performance feedback and support
- Ensure full coach coverage at all practices, meets, and events
Operations & Meet Management
- Coordinate practice schedules, competition calendars, and meet logistics
- Manage travel expectations and coach coverage for away competitions
- Maintain accurate records including attendance, certifications, and timesheets
Program Growth
- Meet enrollment and budget goals for both competitive and pre-competitive programs
- Support recruitment, retention, and promotion efforts in partnership with YMCA leadership
- Represent the Y professionally at competitions, events, and in the gymnastics community
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 21 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred
- 3–5 years of competitive gymnastics coaching experience
- Experience coaching optional-level gymnastics (USAG Levels 6–10) required
- Prior experience supervising assistant coaches strongly preferred
- Competitive gymnastics background is a plus
- Current CPR, First Aid, and Safe Sport certifications required
- Must pass a criminal background check
- Availability for evenings, weekends, and competition travel required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to demonstrate gymnastics skills, actively spot athletes, stand and move for extended periods, and lift up to 25 lbs. Must be able to respond swiftly in emergencies. Work environment is active and may be loud.
