Reports to: Marketing Manager
Hours: 30/week
Pay: $20/hour
Contract dates: June - December 2026
Objective of the position:
The Social Media & Marketing Assistant supports the Library’s marketing and community engagement efforts through social media content creation, customer engagement, promotional support, and marketing operations. This position plays a key role in strengthening the Library’s digital presence, supporting brand consistency, and helping communicate library services, programs, and resources to the community.
This is a 30-hour-per-week contract-to-hire position, including occasional evening or weekend hours for content capture at programs and events.
The Social Media & Marketing Assistant works to ensure effective communication and promotion of the library’s offerings, fostering a positive image and strong community presence. Job Summary:
Social Media & Digital Content (Primary Focus)
- Maintain and implement the strategic social media content plan aligned with the Library’s annual marketing goals and priorities. Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to review, refine, and adjust the plan on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
- Write, capture, and create short-form content, including reels, stories, video clips, and shorts for social media platforms.
- Coordinate and capture photo and video content of events, programs, services, collections, resources, and community impact.
- Compile, analyze, and report on social media performance metrics, including reach, engagement, follower growth, and audience demographics, to evaluate content effectiveness, measure success, and identify opportunities to expand the Library's digital presence.
- Maintain organization of photo and video folders, including archiving unusable or outdated content.
- Monitor direct messages and comments and escalate concerns or sensitive issues to the Marketing Manager to ensure professional and timely responses.
- Monitor social media channels and community groups for customer feedback and escalate concerns or sensitive issues to the Marketing Manager.
- Assist with increasing social media engagement, reach, and follower growth.
- Share and support community partner content when appropriate and identify cross-promotion opportunities.
- Help maintain a consistent posting schedule across platforms.
- Assist with accessibility best practices, including writing alt-text for graphics and digital content.
Marketing & Promotional Support
- Assist in maintaining the marketing calendar and tracking deadlines.
- Assist in maintaining scheduled posting timelines and promotional updates.
- Proofread marketing materials for grammar, clarity, formatting, brand consistency, and adherence to marketing guidelines.
- Assist in reviewing staff-created promotional submissions to ensure alignment with marketing guidelines and standards.
- Assist with writing promotional content, inserting graphics, proofreading, and checking links and formatting as needed.
- Create and update signage for desks, doors, displays, and public spaces.
- Assist with posters, promotional graphics, and final production files.
- Remove outdated or canceled promotional materials from social media, the website, and printed displays.
Administrative & Marketing Operations Support
- Assist with content organization and digital asset management.
- Support marketing projects and special initiatives as assigned.
- Review and manage Community Bulletin Board submissions according to library guidelines.
- Serve as backup to the Marketing Manager for urgent communications such as weather closings or emergency announcements.
Qualifications/Position Requirements:
- Experience creating engaging content for social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube Shorts, and similar platforms. Submission of 3–5 short-form video examples is required to be considered for an interview.
- Short-form video scripting, editing, photography, and production experience required.
- Strong writing, proofreading, and communication skills.
- Ability to create, organize, and maintain strategic content schedules and manage multiple deadlines.
- Basic graphic design experience using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools.
- Ability to work independently while balancing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable interacting professionally and exercising discretion when communicating with customers, staff, and community partners.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift up to 30 pounds and push a 50-pound cart. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Environmental factors: indoor/outdoor-offsite
Working conditions: Library operating/non-operating hours, including nights and weekends.
