Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic Intern

Pelican Harbor Seabird Station is Miami’s premier native wildlife hospital evolving into a world-class wildlife rescue, rehab, release, and education center. We are dedicated to improving the lives of sick, injured, and orphaned native wildlife with the goal of releasing healthy animals back into the ecosystem, thus enabling future generations.

We embody the highest level of patient care, compassion, and integrity while promoting community engagement on the importance of wildlife conservation.

Our internship program is as follows:
- 2 days a week, 8 hours per day with 30 min lunch.  Preferred days will be discussed during the interview if selected.
- 4 months in duration with a total of approximately 275 clinic hours

We offer a unique internship opportunity that allows students to receive hands-on experience in the operations & daily care of patients in a high-volume wildlife hospital. A PHSS intern is ideally an individual who wants to learn about all aspects of wildlife rehabilitation and is for those interested in a career in wildlife/veterinary medicine, rehabilitation, zookeeping, or environmental education.

Interns work alongside Wildlife Rehabilitators to provide medical care to injured, orphaned and sick wildlife in both the clinic and the outdoor rehabilitation area.

Daily care includes cage & enclosure maintenance, diet preparation, medication administration, calculating, preparing, and administering fluid therapy, tube feeding/assisted feeding patients using varied techniques, creating and implementing natural enrichment, assisting in medical treatments and procedures, handling and restraining wildlife patients, maintaining patient records, and more. Critical care occurs inside the clinic; stable patients are moved to outside enclosures. Interns will participate in the husbandry and continued care of these wildlife patients to help prepare them for their release back into the wild.

This is a great opportunity for those who are interested in the veterinary medicine field, wildlife conservation, and conservation education.

Please note: This is a moderately physical position that requires crouching, sitting, standing, and being on your feet most of the day. To be considered, you must be able to perform these duties and be able to be outside in the Florida environment some parts of the day.
