Social Media Coordinator

Part-Time Position

$20/hour, up to 29 hours per week
 

The Utah State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) is looking for a dedicated and skilled person to work as a part-time Social Media Content Creator. This position works across the entire Division to administer stakeholder communications strategy.

As a subject matter expert in digital storytelling, the Social Media Content Creator stays ahead of the curve on emerging technologies and platform shifts. They excel at creative production, delivering content that represents all of the programs within the SHPO.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and monitor SHPO social channels to engage with the public, answer questions (in coordination with subject matter experts), and manage community sentiment;
  • Stay ahead of social media trends and platform updates to ensure SHPO messaging remains relevant and reaches diverse statewide audiences;
  • Assist Division staff and program managers in disseminating critical information throughout the year.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop engaging content that resonates across a range of social platforms like, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube;
  • Create and schedule regular posts to social media platforms and maintain an up-to-date scheduling calendar;
  • Capture and edit original content and have a hand in all phases of video production from pre-to-post (filming, editing, color correction, sound design, etc.);
  • Update and manage Linktree;
  • Monitoring comments and messages to provide accurate information while maintaining a professional and supportive tone;
  • Ensure all social media channels are up-to-date with correct contact information and remove broken links when found;
  • Work with creative team when needed to assist in developing internal and external content;
  • Understand how to use analytics for each appropriate channel;
  • Track and record performance metrics in order to evaluate platform and content performance;
  • Attend in-office and remote team meetings.

 

Qualifications

The model candidate for this position is someone who can:

  • At least one year of experience in content creation, social media management, digital marketing, photography, videography, graphic design, public relations, or communications and planning within a historical, archaeological, or museum context; 
  • Provide a portfolio or examples of work in content creation, writing, graphic design, photography, videography, social media management, or historical/museum interpretation;
  • Have a working understanding of Instagram, Facebook, , LinkedIn, and other channels, including knowledge of specific algorithm trends for each;
  • Work collaboratively and productively over telework (either as a teleworker or with teleworkers);
  • Speak clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to, and understand information and ideas as presented verbally;
  • Deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, respect and professionalism;
  • Understand applicable laws, rules, regulations and or policies and procedures;
  • Coordinate the activities or tasks of people, groups and/or organization(s);
  • Understand the agency and its organizational program(s);
  • Use word processing (Google platforms), presentation, layout/design, video streaming, and web-publishing software applications.
     

Supplemental Information

  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc..
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
  • Note: as of July 1, 2021, State of Utah Employees must either reside in Utah or be in the process of relocating to within 30 days of their start date.
