Pottery Studio Assistant

Position Overview
This position is ideal for someone who already has pottery wheel experience and enjoys helping others learn. You will assist instructors during classes, support students as they develop their skills, help maintain studio operations, and contribute to creating an exceptional guest experience.
This is a hands-on role that combines pottery knowledge, customer service, and studio support.
Responsibilities
- Assist instructors during pottery wheel and handbuilding classes
- Help students with basic wheel-throwing techniques including centering, opening, and pulling walls
- Demonstrate pottery wheel fundamentals when needed
- Prepare clay, tools, bats, and workstations before classes
- Assist with trimming, glazing, and finishing processes
- Label, organize, and store student work
- Load and unload pottery shelves
- Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized studio
- Assist with workshops, summer camps, birthday parties, and private events
- Welcome guests and provide outstanding customer service
- Support paint-your-own pottery sessions when needed
- Perform general studio opening and closing duties
QualificationsRequired
- Previous pottery wheel experience
- Ability to center clay independently
- Basic understanding of pottery wheel techniques and ceramic processes
- Friendly, patient, and professional attitude
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds
Preferred
- Experience teaching or assisting pottery classes
- Experience working with children and families
- Customer service or hospitality experience
- Art, ceramics, or education background
Schedule
Part-time position.
Typical availability needed:
- Weekday evenings
- Saturdays
- Sundays
- Additional hours available during camps, workshops, and special events
